The very confusing projection of Devon Cajuste

Of all the drafted and undrafted college prospects the team added over the past couple of weeks, the hardest to figure out for me is Stanford WR Devon Cajuste. Beginning with his personality which seems to be a mishmash of academic geek, stoned hippy, and old school jock. As an athlete Devon presents the puzzling combination of a 6-4, 235 pound frame (with near 11" hand size) and a miniscule 6.49 short agility test score that belongs to a 5-8, 175 pounder. Not to mention the 4.4 40 he ran at Stanford Pro Day vs. his 4.62 Combine time. Position wise, projections for him range from TE through HB, SR, and WR which seems to be his preferred destination, and his listed position with the team to this point.

Other questions arise over his lack of significant production during his 4-5 year college career at Stanford, and why his numbers dropped each season. Not to mention the head scratching aspect of how a prospect with his physical gifts and intelligence (highest Wonderlic score at his position) went undrafted. A player he is often compared to in terms of metrics and position, Devin Funchess, was taken high in the second round by the Panthers a year ago. There doesn't seem to be any off field issues which would drop his stock, and on the contrary he seems like the ultimate team player and a non stop fountain of enthusiasm and good will.

In any event, Devon landed in the optimum situation in terms of establishing himself as a pro, so the UDFA status may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Very Interesting Prospect.
