Free agent running back Reggie Bush won’t be re-joining the San Francisco 49ers in 2016, but he might get a chance to face them this fall. The Buffalo Bills have made a contract offer to Bush, according to Ian Rapoport. The news comes following word late last week that running back Karlos Williams has been suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Bush has not made a decision yet, and does not seem to be in a huge rush. The Bills veterans will report to training camp a week from Friday, so that gives Bush some time to figure out his decision. We haven’t heard anything else about Bush’s status this offseason, so I don’t see any reason he doesn’t accept the deal. Well, Buffalo in the winter is a reason to not accept, but for some quick money, I could put up with it!
LeSean McCoy is the Bills starter, but Bush would provide a complementary option, if he could stay healthy. Bush appeared in five games for the 49ers last season, was inactive for three, and on injured reserve the final eight. I’m a little skeptical he can remain healthy. The 49ers travel to face the Bills in Week 6. My guess is Bush is not playing at that point, but maybe he surprises us.
