The NFL schedule makers gave the 49ers a difficult opening schedule for this season. The 49ers take another long trip back to the West Coast and head to Seattle to face the Seahawks on Sunday. The 49ers and the Seahawks are coming off losses and will be looking to get back to winning ways.
Seattle has been a tough place for the 49ers to play in recent years. The Seahawks have been a strong defensive team for a few years and the offense has made plays when they needed to make them. This game seems different because Seattle’s offense is flawed. Marshawn Lynch is retired and the offensive line cannot block for Russell Wilson or the running backs. They have only scored one TD in 2 games, while Russell has been sacked 5 times. He is also nursing an ankle injury that has limited his mobility.
The Seattle defense is still good. They have 8 sacks thru 2 games and have allowed only 1 TD. The 49ers offensive line has been good, allowing only 2 sacks in their games. The offense will have to continue to protect Blaine against the Seattle defense and Blaine will need to hit enough throws to score some points. The offense will also need to generate some running lanes so Carlos Hyde and Shaun Draughn can help wear down Seattle’s defense. The 49ers will need to take advantage of the hurting Seattle offense and score just enough on this defense to pull out a win.
The 49ers will be without Ray Ray Armstrong, who went on the injured reserve Monday. He suffered a pectoral injury in Carolina. Ray Ray had played next to NaVorro Bowman in a rotation with Gerald Hodges and he made plays. In the 2 games, he has 8 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Gerald Hodges will now get most of the snaps with Michael Wilhoite and Nick Bellore as the backups.
