The San Francisco 49ers will not be interviewing Kansas City Chiefs personnel executive Chris Ballard, but we can add another notable name to the interview list. Ian Rapoport tweeted that the 49ers will interview Green Bay Packers executive Eliot Wolf this week. ESPN’s Dan Graziano is reporting the interview will take place on Thursday. Fooch’s update: Adam Schefter is reporting the 49ers will also interview Packers director of college scouting Brian Gutekunst.
The Green Bay Packers are playing in the wild card round this weekend, but the rules on interviews are different for coaches vs. executives. Wild card round coaches have to wait until next week, while execs can interview any time once permission is granted. It makes sense given assistant coaches are preparing for a playoff game.
Three weeks ago, Albert Breer mentioned that Wolf had been connected to the 49ers in the rumor mill. There had been nothing since, but clearly it is back on our radar. Wolf is the son of former Packers general manager Ron Wolf. He has spent 13 years in the Packers organization. He joined the team in 2004 as a pro personnel assistant. After four seasons in that position, he served as assistant director of pro personnel from 2008 to 2010. From 2011 to 2014 he was director of pro personnel. In 2015, he was promoted to director of player personnel. This past March he was promoted to director of football operations.
