One of the top QB prospects in this year’s draft and possible future 49er, Mitch Trubisky participated in drills on North Carolina’s Pro Day. This week is a big week for the 49ers and possible QB picks. Following Trubisky’s Pro Day, the 49ers will have Clemson’s Dashaun Watson for a personal workout on Wednesday and then travel to Notre Dame’s Pro Day to watch DeShone Kizer on Thursday.
Mitch is said to have a private workout scheduled with the 49ers at a later date. Mitch is rumored to be the 1st QB off the board in the draft, even though he only has 1 season under his belt at North Carolina. His arm strength and accuracy are ranked well with scouts. The question with Mitch is will he be ready to contribute right away if taken at #2? Mitch may be better off sitting his rookie year to learn behind a veteran like Brian Hoyer. The 49ers could load up on offensive talent, so Mitch could come in with a better roster.
Mitch, Dashaun, and DeShone are the leading prospects in the draft, but the 49ers could possibly wait and take a QB in the later rounds. Cal’s David Webb and Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes are options that could be available in the 2nd round. The 49ers seem more interested in trading back in the draft, which if they can do, would probably be the best option. They need to gather talent for their roster so one season from now, they can find a QB to help complete the team.
