The New Orleans Saints do not have an answer for after Drew Brees retires, but for 2017, they have figured out their backup situation. ESPN is reporting the Saints signed Chase Daniel to a one-year deal. Daniel returns to the city where he spent the first four years of his career. He likely supplants Luke McCown and Garrett Grayson on the depth chart.
The Saints are a decent bet to spend a draft pick on a quarterback this year, but how high is the question. Brees isn’t going anywhere for the time being, but at 38 years of age, he is not going to be around for a whole lot longer. They drafted Grayson in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, but this makes it pretty clear they are not satisfied with his development.
My guess is they end up spending a third or fourth on the quarterback position and move on from Grayson sooner rather than later. My guess is they end up drafting a quarterback after the 49ers have spent a pick on the position. Feel free to bookmark and laugh at me next month if I’m wrong.
