Overlook:

Jamal Adams is a dominant, ball-hawking, impressive strong safety out of LSU. Adams stands at 6'1 and weighs in at 214 pounds. In adams 3 seasons as a starter amongst the Tigers' defense, Adams has recorded a total of 209 tackles, 128 of them being solo, 18 for loss, 2 being sacks, 81 being assisted, he intercepted 5 passes, and forced 2 fumbles. Those numbers are proficient as adams enters the NFL Draft forgoing his final year of eligibility. adams is highly considered as a probable top 5 pick in the first and even a top 10 pick. With the 49ers just recently releasing Antoine Bethea, Jamal Adams could definitely be a great replacement of his spot as the 49ers transition in to a new 4-3 defensive scheme and still have the #2 pick.

Adams is an impressive Strong safety with a High Ceiling:

Adams pretty much just deceives Pat Mahomes. Adams switches to the left side of the receivers, gets in position to man up on the receiver, then immediately moves to the designated receiver for a quick screen, shutting down the screen option.

Impressive awareness by Adams as he already spots the underneath pass prior to the snap. Adams keeps his eyes on then quickly makes a hard hit on the intended receiver, ending the play from there.

There's no question Adams is a skilled tackler, but his technique speaks for itself. Like the famous statement in football says, "lowest man wins," perfect example shown here. Adams already had his sights set on the one on one tackle and gets the job down with a great shoot and wrap up to th Auburn running back.

Adams in one on man coverage here. He nicely aligns himself with good balance in hips, squaring himself up with the receiver. Mahomes checks to the left, sees his receiver his solidly covered by Adams then rolls out.

Another successfully performed tackle with good technique shown by Adams.

Adams commits to the play shown here. Adams spots the running back shifting lanes, then quickly bolts to the open space and makes a nice hit on the running back to take him down.

Adams dropping back in coverage. Adams perfectly sets his eyes on the quarterback, then adjusts to where the ball is. Adams once adjusted, positions himself perfectly for the overthrown pass to be an interception.

Can Jamal Adams Fit in to the 49ers New Defense?

Adams has definitely shown what he's capable of doing on the field these past 3 seasons, so it's most likely a yes. Adams is a very skilled safety who can ball-hawk and be scrappy to take down running backs. Adams would provide great assistance against the run and possibly do some damage against the pass. With Adams possibly be a selection, the 49ers would have an LSU secondary consisting of FS Eric reid, CB Rashard Robinson, and then Adams.

Strengths:

Great positioning, perfectly bent knees and set hips in what is called the "athletic position," possesses great play diagnosis, ideal pre snap anticipation, shows great toughness, isn't afraid or hesitant to make a tackle or hit against the opponent, coverage skills are impressive, proficient foot work with back pedal, nice positioning, and ability of mirroring opponent allows him to be able to shift to nickel corner, covering slot receivers while keeping eyes on the QB. Adams possesses the right impact on a tackle from a safety. Adams provides the needed pop and damage on a tackle that can either make the ball carrier go down instantly or fumble. Adams is a well-involved defender that always engaged with almost every play on defense.

Weaknesses:

It is very difficult to find a weakness of Adams. Size could be one, but Adams makes up for it with impressive technique and scrappiness against all opponents. In coverage, however, Adams tends to keep eyes on QB for a little too long which will probably allow the QB to make the connection. Adams at times tends to take the worst angles at tackles, fly in and leave his feet, or shoot in too low making himself vulnerable to being hurdled.

NFL Comparison:

Landon Collins S New York G

Adams isn't quite as big as Collins, but is quite an enforcer on defense like Collins. Both show similar features of being a "field general" on defense. Both show very similar ball-hawking features and run game ending features.

Tyrann Mathieu S Arizona Cardinals

Both are a little undersized, but make up for it with amazing scrappiness, well-performed tackles, and great pass coverage.
