Official Kendall Wright Hatewagon (Peter Warrick 2.0)
Mike Mayock has us drafting the most overrated player in the NFL Draft, a guy named Kendall Wright from Baylor -- a slower version of Kyle Williams who in addition gives up on plays, fails to separate, and doesn't like to block. He has zero chance of ever playing Flanker (z) or Split End (x) -- a really slow slot receiver.
So, I decided to preemptively create a post for all of us to vent if the unfortunate happens and Wright is drafted...and confidence in Baalke collapses.
Who's with me? No Peter Warrick 2.0!

The Curious Case of Coby Fleener
There are plenty of angles every year when it comes to the NFL Draft. Especially when you look at it from each team's unique perspective based on their "needs and wants." Enter your San Francisco 49ers and their seemingly loaded roster of talent and depth at most positions. Some might say we "need' to draft an offensive guard. I would counter that based on last years draft (which historically I think might be one of the best ever when it's all said and done as a whole) which included a talented physical specimen named Daniel Kilgore. While Kilgore's talents have yet to be gameday tested in the NFL, his skills have no doubt been assessed and 49ers brass have made up their mind whether or not he will be deemed capable or not of stepping in and filling that role. The tight-lipped Trent Baalke and Jim Harbaugh who are reminiscent of the Patriots' Bill Bellicheck era and their amazing run in New England with their approach to the media and evaluating talent at every level have no doubt decided on Kilgore's ability or inability which will impact the #30 pick in Tursday's draft.
Which brings us to Coby Fleener. Yes we have loads of talent at the tight end position already with Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker and even a young blocking stud in Nate Byham. Yes the team made multiple off-season moves to improve the receiving weapons filling that void. And yes there are other positions including the offensive line which need added depth but none with a glaring hole assuming the 49ers feel Kilgore will step up and fill that need. Considering the new regime and their level of secrecy we have no idea how they view their prospects. Think of the last time you heard either Harbaugh or Baalke talk about Colin Kaepernick's progress or if they think he has what it takes to be the next QB of the future in San Francisco. You haven't. They don't tip their hand. So Fleener and his freakish ability which I don't need to even cover thanks to his pro day and the many other gushing articles on him since then might be a luxury pick for the 49ers. However, with Walker's contract set to expire after this season I think Coby Fleener is a safe pick especially with the 30th overall pick. We took Vernon with the 6th pick and if Fleener pans out as expected he would be a steal at that spot.
He fits with the offensive scheme, he's a hometown hero of sorts and we know about him being recruited by Jim Harbaugh. The last two points are just things of note but he really fits the mold for a Jim Harbaugh offense. Fleener's freakish ability is something that stands on it's own and can't be overlooked. Only the guys in the War Room know who they hope is available when the San Francisco 49ers take the podium on Thursday but as a fan I hope they announce:
"With the 30th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft the San Francisco 49ers select Coby Fleener, TE out of Stanford!"
A guy can dream can't he?
Official NN NFL Draft Post
You are probably wondering why I am making one of these post when there is already a functioning draft post. Well its because the other one has gotten pretty full of comments so I was told to make another one. SO REC THIS UP
This will probably be my last post. Because the draft begins on THURSDAY. So lets get on to the new post but first the rules. This is a post about the NFL draft so if you have anything to do with the NFL draft this is where it goes. Second follow NN protocol so if you won't do it on the front page don't do it here.
For my last draft I am going to give you guys some prospects who may be surprise picks by the 49ers front office.

Who Doesn't Like A Good Mock Draft....Even If It Is Bad....
1) Stephen Hill - WR- Georgia Tech - 6'5", 200 lbs.
Project pick here. Probably the highest ceiling of all the WR's due to his insane athleticism. With the great Randy Moss (even if he's not so great anymore) as his mentor, we could be looking at a the best receiver this team has seen since T.O. in his prime. You know....after all the dropped catches...Just remember, this kid can fly!
2) Amini Silatolu - OG - Midwestern State - 6'4", 311 lbs.
Why reach in the 1st for a guy who will probably be there in the 2nd? OK to be honest we will probably have to trade our 3rd to move up to get this guy in the 2nd, but this is a mock draft so just except the awesomeness. We get another high ceiling player and great prospect at RG, but even better, Iupati finally has someone he can talk to...racist?...or hilarious?...probably just racist, sorry.
3) Isaiah Pead - RB - Cincinnati - 5'10", 200 lbs.
Pead's stock has been on the rise, but as we've seen with Kendal Hunter RB's, are undervalued. So we might be able to get a steal with him and if he can bulk up we might be looking at the future bellcow of this team and Tell me these cuts aren't sick!
4) Tommy Streeter - WR - Miami - 6'5", 215 lbs.
Yet another flyer, who is also 6'5". It's like drafting the same WR twice and hoping that one of them hits. Hill and Streeter will push eachother to be the teams go to deep threat. Competition breeds greatness. Great highlight video, mixed with great song.
5) Brandon Washington - OC - Miami - 6'3", 320 lbs.
Camp body, working to give our O-line a little more depth. Maybe he can make a back up role or at the very least make the practice squad.
6) Aaron Henry - FS - Wisconsin - 6'0", 210 lbs.
Used Drafttek.com to find a FS in the 6th round that was a reasonable amount away from us, and they actually had us picking him. And when has Drafttek ever been wrong?
7) Andrew Iupati - DT - Humboldt State - 6'1", 310 lbs
Honestly I just saw another Iupati and thought, how can that be bad?
Now I know this isn't the most true to form draft, and there's probably a couple of reaches here. If I was a betting man I would say we end up grabbing Silatolu in the first because I think they've down their homework on him and I think they like him. Maybe they can find someone to move back for him, but probably not, so I figure they just grab him so they don't lose him. Let me know if this draft would make you happy, because I know I would be ecstatic, mainly because of the first 4 picks. Enjoy!
Mock Dizzle
Im trying my hand with a mock draft. Keep in mind Im not a football genius and this will not be nearly as good as Merlins mock draft. Im not cocky enough to predict trades or anything, just going off of the order as is. I hope this doesnt look like every other mock draft ever made! cant wait for the real deal.
1. Colts - Andrew Luck -The most shocking pick of the draft.
2. Redskins - Robert Griffin III- Almost as shocking.
3. Minnesota - Matt Kalil- Makes the most sense for the Vikings other than trading back.
4. Cleveland - Justin Blackmon -I think they will try and move this pick but if their hand is forced than I think they will get a true number one for the QBOTF.
5. TB - Morris Claiborne- I think with an aging Ronde this is the obvious choice.
6. STL - Fletcher Cox -Will make an immediate impact in the middle.
7. JAX - Melvin Ingram -They have missed with this position alot so fingers crossed.
8. MIA - Ryan Tannehill- Obvious choice.
9. CAR - Michael Floyd- Cam needs weapons and Steve isnt getting any younger.
10. Buffalo - Stephen Gilmore- I think hes a top ten talent.
11. KC - Trent Richardson- Steal of the draft.
12. SEA -Luke Kuechly - They need LBS
13. ARI - David Decastro- High for a guard but hes too good to pass up. Floyd would of been nice here aswell.
14. DAL - Mark Barron- I think this is a great fit
15. PHI - Michael Brockers- Babin Cole Brockers = ridiculous
16. NYJ - Riley Reiff- Tebow or Sanchez either way they need a RT paving the way.
17. CIN - Quinton Coples- Helping an already really good defense.
18. SD - Cordy Glenn- I think some GMS are fallin in love with this kid. Fills a need with a guy who could be special.
19. CHI - Courtney Upshaw- They need help on the oline desperately but havent they for years? Upshaw opposite side of Peppers should get pressure on NFC North QBs
20. TEN - Dre Kirkpatrick- Losing Finnegan doesnt hurt so much anymore
21. CIN - Kendall Wright- Him and AJ will be tough to stop.
22. CLE - Chandler Jones- Breathing a sigh of relief their guy falls to them at 22.
23. DET - Janoris Jenkins- They need help in the secondary.
24. PIT - Donta Hightower- Need I say more?
25. DEN - Kendall Reyes -Big upgrade for them.
26. HOU - Stephen Hill- I think they got the players in place for him to be a situational player early and getting groomed by Andre doesnt hurt either
27. NE - Shea Mcclellin - Smart guy who does his job, perfect fit for the hoody.
28. GB - Jonathan Martin -They would of rather got Shea but with the departure of Clifton this makes sense aswell.
29. BAL - Nick Perry -Nice addition to that front seven. Helps the with the loss of Redding
30. SF - Peter Konz- Boo YA I had Baltimore taking him but this is my mock draft so Im giving him to us. He competes right away for the starting gig at RG and moves over to Center in his sophmore year.
31. NE - Devon Still- Really helps that front seven
32. NYG - Coby Fleener- Bennet is nice but pair him with Fleener and it gets a whole lot better.

2012 NFL Draft Predictions Thread: Putting Your Money Where Your Mouth Is
The 2012 NFL Draft is only a couple days away, which means the "experts" are wrapping up their run through of predictions. Whether it be Matt Kalil dropping, or some random player surprising folks and climbing into the first two days, draft predictions are running wild.
Everybody here has made plenty of predictions for the upcoming draft as well, but they are interspersed throughout numerous posts. Smileyman had a great suggestion about providing a forum for predictions related to the draft. His suggestion was for people to post things like their predictions on biggest risers and fallers. Here are some more specifics:
For example someone could say Kellen Moore will be drafted in the bottom of the 2nd round/top of the 3rd for the riser, and then for a faller something like Fleener won't get drafted until after pick 45. Just a place for everybody to put their predictions.
So here is a thread for all your favorite predictions. You can make any kind of predictions you want for the draft. I've posted some gambling odds related to the draft if you are looking for some inspiration beyond just risers and fallers. I'm posting this on the front page initially and will bring it back up on the morning of the draft. In the meantime, rec this up and get your predictions in. It should make for a good time looking back on this next week after the draft is complete.
Your top three choices for pick 30? Why?
Fleener- hands/height. Hill- speed/upside. Trade down early second rounders are in the same boat as late first rounders
For the first time in many years I am excited and hopeful that our 49ers are really getting back to the top. Not hopeful like years past when we were are all crossing our fingers... This is it folks! Two years left in Candlestick! We will all remember when Trent started drafting this new team dynasty! We will praise Harbuagh as we do Walsh! Now that's HOPE!!!

I'm Very Happy With our "30 at 30" Options, Except For Two Players
With all the mocks that have come out and all the different directions we can go, I am very comfortable with our options at #30. There are, however, two players that I would be very upset if we took them at #30 -- I did have four players -- Shea McLellin and Derek Wolfe -- but I'm sold on McLellin now and Wolfe is simply a 2nd or 3rd round pick (I think only Mel Kiper has him as a first rounder).
The first is Kendall Wright. He's a 5-10 slot receiver without elite speed. I have no idea what use he would be to the 49ers and his selection would cause me to question Baalke's competence. He would be a terrible, terrible choice. All of the other 4 options at #30 for TEs/WRs each have their own strengths and weaknesses that we can all make arguments for...I'd be fine with any of them.
The second is Janoris Jenkins. The guy has major off the field issues, both with the law and in personal life. It clearly shows a lack of responsibility in life that will represent itself on the field at some point and through his work ethic. This is a "Raiders" pick or a "Bengals" pick -- I would be very unhappy with the pick, but I would have to assume that Baalke determined his off the field issues are manageable and we can mature him as a man. Top 10 talent, Ten Cent head.
After the jump is my big board of 30 players we can take at #30, sorted by skill group
LATE-BREAKING NFL TRADE: 49ers Finalizing Deal with Colts for #1 Pick
Crazy... Can't believe it myself other than to say: I DID predict this MONTHS ago... Predicted they'd "at least kick the tires" on a deal like this. Nothing finalized yet but... Holy-oh-my-god...(!!!) Can you believe it? I'm nearly in a state-of-shock... This is all just completely unbelievable.
The deal isn't completed yet... The league office hasn't signed-off and isn't expected to do so until tomorrow mid-morning at the earliest (like 11AM EST so that's what, 8AM PST). But all the particulars seem to be in place, and I'll report what I've heard after the jump...
Armchair GM Championship
By Ben Harbaugh and Danny Kelly, writers at Field Gulls.
The 2012 NFL Draft is almost upon us. Many NFL fans discuss the draft even more than regular season and it is easy to see why. The draft represents the future of the league. It can push a team to ultimate victory or leave them looking to next year's draft. Each pick symbolizes an opportunity for improvement. Success takes a team that much closer to the title, while failure leaves them that much farther away. The gravity of the situation is difficult to overstate.
Understandably, many of us don't like following such an event with our eyes closed. We've learned about the prospects and developed opinions for who we want our team to select. With opinion comes debate and intrigue. The sea of scouting fosters a sense of competition based on the desire to predict the outcome of the draft. However, until now there's never been a platform to give that sense of competition meaning. This year that changes. It's time to put your armchair GM skills to the test.
In a nutshell, the challenge is to predict the draft picks for your team of choice. You will rank the twenty prospects most likely to be selected by your team in the order you feel is likeliest. If your top player is picked then you score 20 points. If your second player is picked - 19 points. Third player -18 points, etc. Whoever accumulates the most points by the end of the draft is the winner. We will discuss tie breaking and the finer details of the rules in the competition after the jump.
