Niners to Franchise A. Franklin?

PFT reports the Niners are planning on franchising Franklin. I think this is an outstanding move. Gives us a chance to evaluate him for another year before offering a long term contract, and if someone does decide to pick him up we get 2 first rounders for it.

At Least The Niners Are Better Than the Browns

At Least The Niners Are Better Than the Browns

If you watched the whole MNF game, well you watched what had to be the worst game of the season, but man it was hard to take my eyes off the trainwreck that is the Browns offense.

If you take out the last 10 yard lateral pass play (because it's more fun that way) the Browns ran 60 plays and had 150 yards of offense. That's 2.5 yards per play. But wait, it gets worse.

Not counting the last play, Brady Quinn went 12/30 for 89 yards, with no TD's, 2 INT's, and a fumble. That would be about 3 yards per play until you remember that he also got sacked 4 times for a combined loss of 2 yards. So on 34 drop backs the Browns gained a net total of 64 yards. That comes out to 1.88 yards per pass play. For comparison, the Pats average 8.3 yards per pass play against the Colts, nearly 4 times the yards per play. You show 'em Brady.

The crazy thing is I'm not sure a full-time Wildcat with Josh Cribbs wouldn't be more effective. At the very least i would be more interesting. Or heck, jut go all out and line up in a punt formation on every play and just tell Cribbs to run for his life. They'd probably score more than 5 touchdowns every 15 games.

Matt Maiocco's Thoughts on the 49ers going to a more balanced offensive attack as the season moves...

Matt Maiocco's Thoughts on the 49ers going to a more balanced offensive attack as the season moves forward.
Well, I think that’s the whole idea. They would like to. But you have to also look at how the game is going. And last night (Thursday), it was a run-dominated going because of the (previous) reasons I outlined. They just didn’t want to turn the ball over. The game against the Titans, I think they felt the best way of going up against the #32-ranked passing defense was to throw the ball. They spread them out a little bit. Whenever you try to throw the ball, you’re going to be more susceptible to turnovers. The three turnovers, the three interceptions and then the one fumble on a sack last week from Alex Smith, those were the key plays in that game against the Titans. And then in last night’s game, it was the Bears who became one-dimensional as far as the passing goes. And they ultimately paid the price. Jay Cutler had a lot of yards throwing with 300 yards, but ultimately the 5 turnovers/5 interceptions (are) the reason the 49ers won the game.

Maiocco's thoughts on the 49ers defense as the season has progressed.
Well I think there are a couple things. One of the big things has been (that) they’re playing better teams. When the season started, the pass rush was very good and I think as the pass rush goes, so goes the 49ers defense. So I think if the pass rush is there, the secondary is playing better – just sort of that hand and glove sort of the thing. They’ve generally been very good against the run against all teams. They came into last night’s game ranked 4th in the league in run defense. I’m sure they’ll move up a slot or two based on this game where they allowed Matt Forte only 41 yards on 20 carries. The one game where they allowed rushing yards was against Chris Johnson and the Titans and he’s been burning everybody. So the key to me is the pass rush. The run defense has been solid pretty much the entire year. And last night, if you look at the stat sheet, the 49ers had no sacks but I think the pressure on Jay Cutler was a huge part of last night’s game. There were a couple of times when Cutler was rushed and threw the pick. He never had a great opportunity, I don’t think, to throw from a completely clean pocket. So he was always shuffling his feet or trying to move or get room to throw. And I think ultimately that pressure paid dividends in the form of five interceptions.

Matt Maiocco on the Davis Sports Deli Podcast

Priorities are screwed up here.

Ochocinco has announced that he'll match that fine and donate it to charity.

America's Game: The Super Bowl

Not sure if this was the most appropriate way to post this but I thought some of you guys might be interested. The NFL Network is airing a series of programs called America's Game: The Super Bowl today and it seems as if they are focusing on the 49ers Super Bowls.

10:00 AM-1988 w/ comments from Bill Walsh, Harris Barton, and Roger Craig

11:00 AM- 1989 w/ comments from George Seifert, Tom Rathman, and Jerry Rice

12:00 AM- 1994 w/ Steve Young, Brent Jones, and Merton Hanks

I watched the very end of the 1984 episode and thought this might interest some of the faithful.
