49ers Practice Video 5-24: First Set Of OTAs Come To A Close
The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their first week of OTAs yesterday and we've got some final video from Thursday's practice session. Yesterday's video features a lot of passing and catching early on. There are several opportunities to break down Alex Smith's knee-bend. That's a bit more of a story than the Alex Smith-Jon Beason non-story, but still something we just spend a ton of time on this time of year.
After the jump, I've got a few comments on yesterday's video.
A.J. Jenkins Interviews LaMichael James At NFL Rookie Premiere Event
SB Nation was at the NFL Rookie Premiere last week and managed to score a lot of video from the event. 49ers rookies A.J. Jenkins and LaMichael James were on hand and the network was able to get time for Jenkins to interview James at the Rose Bowl. James' was a couple months removed from his last appearance at the Rose Bowl when his Oregon Ducks edged out the Wisconsin Badgers 45-38.
It is safe to say these are two excited rookies. They face an uphill battle to prove their worth in the coming months, but they seem to have a great attitude heading into training camp.
If you missed some of the earlier video, head after the jump to check them out. AJ Jenkins makes entertaining appearances in both. And of course, please make sure and subscribe to SB Nation's YouTube station. There is some awesome video to check out. One of our most randomly awesome? Blake Griffin highlights set up in NBA Jam (Boom Shaka-Laka!).
49ers Quarterback Alex Smith Talks About Passing Offense and 2012 Season
San Francisco's starting quarterback Alex Smith spoke to the media this week and had some encouraging things to say about his team. Smith spoke about his new weapons, some returning ones as well as a bit about 2012. After dissecting the chat posted on CSN Bay Area (embedded after the jump), I strung together some interesting quotes made by Smith in regard to the 49ers.
Smith opened up the conversation by talking about the competition at the wide receiver position. He seemed very enthused about the amount of talent and depth at a position group that once lacked both. "It's like waking up on Christmas, you got a lot of new toys out there, a lot of new presents -it's competitive...A lot of talented guys out there, it's exciting," Smith commented.
He drifted into talking about Michael Crabtree, and how people have seemed to have forgotten about him with all of the new additions. But the feedback from Smith regarding Crabtree seemed very positive.
"Especially for Michael [Crabtree] and me, we're a little further along. I feel good about body language and things like that and really trying to take it to the next level. The thing I'm excited for him, not only is it his first offseason, but he's healthy. And I think he's excited about that," said Smith.
With new receivers in the picture to alleviate some of the pressure from Crabtree, and considering his development and first real offseason, the receiver could blossom. He'll be getting a great deal of support from new addition Randy Moss, who will demand the attention of the No. 1 cornerbacks.
49ers Practice Video: Special Teams Brings The Fury
The San Francisco 49ers returned to their offseason workouts yesterday, with OTAs set to get going today. The team released some more practice video, and we get to see a bit of special teams work.
This first video features fan favorite Brian Jennings practicing his long-snapping. I think this could make a solid GIF in the sense that watching it over and over again might lull you to sleep. It's important work, but let's face it, it is not quite the most video-friendly of work when there aren't 11 defenders trying to bust through and block the punt or field goal. But practice makes permanent, so fundamentals work is just as important as any other work.
49ers Practice Video: The Most Exciting 1:28 Of Video EVER
Over the last four days, the San Francisco 49ers have kept their offseason workouts under wraps, with no media access to provide us with random tidbits of knowledge about random player X. The 49ers held a rookie minicamp over the weekend and have had continued workouts yesterday and today, but we haven't been able to figure much out from those workouts.
Never fear, help is on the way! The 49ers have created a media pool of daily practice video from select on-field workouts during Phase 2 of the offseason workouts. Under NFL rules, the media is only allowed to post 90 seconds of video per day. Below you will find 88 seconds of video from yesterday's workout courtesy of 49ers.com and NFL.com. While it is fairly limited, and tells us almost nothing about player progress in the offseason, it still does something to get us through this wildly dead time in the NFL calendar.
Video: Bruce Miller Surprises 4th Grade Class
This is a pretty cool video of Bruce Miller visiting a fourth grade class earlier this offseason. Apparently, after the 49ers loss to the Giants, the kids pooled together $8 and sent it to the 49ers for the new stadium with a letter of support. IN response, Bruce Miller came out to present the school with $1,500 and visit with the kids. They will also be going to a game this fall.
The response when Bruce Miller is introduced, and again when he mentions tickets for a game, is pretty entertaining. Head after the jump to check out the video.
2012 Pro Bowl Results: Andy Lee, David Akers Dominate Special Teams For 49ers
For those that weren't paying attention (likely most of you) the 2012 NFL Pro Bowl turned in its usual offensive fireworks as the AFC blew out the NFC 59-41. Brandon Marshall was the MVP of the game thanks to his six receptions for 176 yards and a Pro Bowl record four touchdowns. Larry Fitzgerald looked like he was on his way to an MVP performance with two touchdowns in the first quarter, but the NFC defense fell apart (well, moreso than normal for a Pro Bowl) and Marshall benefited.
The 49ers had numerous participants in the game, but as has been the case much of the season, the special teamers stood out. David Akers successfully attempted two onside kicks, with long snapper Brian Jennings recovering the second one. Andy Lee got in on the action as well, completing a pass to Patrick Peterson on a fake punt that netted a first down.
The Pro Bowl can be a bit of a joke as far as being a truly competitive affair, but it still provides some moments of entertainment. I've posted video of the two onside kicks and the fake punt after the jump.
Video: How Many Of Us Felt Following Sunday's Loss
Jed York tweeted out a fantastic video that I had to share. It's all great, but my favorite part might be the last few seconds.
