Golden Nuggets: All About YAC

Ahhh, it's getting closer and closer to the weekend! Not only am I confident in the 49ers this weekend but on Saturday I'll be watching UFC 106, so this weekend is looking pretty stacked at this point. Still, Sunday is my most anticipated event of course, I only wish it was at Candlestick so I could be there to watch it. My voice is just fully recovering since I completely destroyed it during the Bears game and I wish I could get another chance to ruin it on Sunday. I suppose if the Niners end up getting beat badly I'll have a reason to scream at the TV at least, no? Anyway, I have a decent amount of links for you today, I think a few previews are coming out and I shouldn't be in a hurry for once, though I am pretty tired. Note that I completely refuse to re-read these links each day so if I make grammatical errors well... it's 2:15 AM currently, so there. Here's some linkage.

Upon further review it seems like the 2005 QB class wasn't so bad at all. This article makes some good points but um... I'm not really convinced. It stunk. (SacBee.com)

This is my number one concern for Sunday--stopping Green Bay's YAC! The 49ers defense outside of Patrick Willis and Manny Lawson have looked slower than ever. (MecruryNews.com)

Speaking of YAC, WR Michael Crabtree is looking to get some more of it as he looks to improve his game. (Yahoo.com)

Crabtree is concerned with wins more than anything, not necessarily touchdowns. If you didn't know, he doesn't have one yet this season. He'll get it on Sunday. (49ers.com)

Golden Nuggets: Definitely need to limit turnovers

Goood morning everyone. Today I've got plenty of links for you, a couple previews, some audio clips, some interviews and notes and all that good stuff. I'm also going to try and keep my grammar up to par in this edition of the Nuggets considering the fact that some of you have been complaining lately! As the weekend draws closer all I can do is get more and more confident that the 49ers are going to do some winning on Sunday. I'm expecting good things from this team both offensively and defensively, though I expect the defense to look much more impressive. In a hurry again, so on to the links.

Jimmy Raye is getting ready for the Packers defense. (MercuryNews.com)

The offense isn't sure which Packers D will show up on Sunday, though. (PressDemocrat.com)

The 49ers defense should get their chance at Aaron Rodgers, however. (PressDemocrat.com)

Limiting turnovers is the 49ers number one concern on offense, sadly I feel this will always be the case if Alex Smith is our starting quarterback. (49ers.com)

Golden Nuggets: Well, Morgan it is then

Morning everyone. Today I've got more links for you than I did yesterday, but I'm in a huge rush after a rather bad day. The first of the previews for Sunday's game against the Packers are rolling in as well as some articles concerning the 49ers wide receivers and who will be starting. Other than that, I don't think I have a whole lot for you. As I'm in a hurry I'll just get to your links.

WR Josh Morgan is now the starter instead of Isaac Bruce. (SacBee.com)

Wilhelm and Willis made a nice combo when Takeo Spikes was out with an injury, I suppose it's good that the backup performs well--but I'll take Spikes over any other TED linebacker in the league any day. (SacBee.com)

Singletary wants the 49ers to commit less penalties. I hadn't noticed too many really, but looking at the numbers I suppose there's too many. (Yahoo.com)

Mike Singletary says LT Barry Sims is playing "outstanding football." I never thought I'd say that. (49ers.com)

Here's more about Josh Morgan and how he hopes to progress as a wide receiver. (SFGate.com)

What does everyone here think of the Crabtree-Morgan receiving duo? (MercuryNews.com)

Golden Nuggets: Not much today

Hey there everyone. I don't have very many links for you today, but it isn't for lack of searching. There's just been a couple days off so there won't be a whole lot of news unless changes are made or until the previews start coming out later this week. Still, I'll find what I can for you. As always, if you find anything I missed, post it up in the comments for everyone else to read, I can't find them all. As far as 49erland well... I'm remaining stalwart on my prediction, I may even go as far as to betting a few Packer friends of mine. The 49ers are going to win it, if they don't well... I don't know. But still. Umm... that should be about it for today, I'll just get to the links and what not. Enjoy.

Former competing first overall picks Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers will be facing off in their first regular season meeting in the NFL on Sunday. (PressDemocrat.com)

NT Aubrayo Franklin continues to get praise. Awesome. (SFGate.com)

The Santa Clara stadium plan is reaching a crucial point this week. (MercuryNews.com)

The 49ers best route to the playoffs at this point may be through the wild card picture as opposed to winning the division. I can see it now, 49ers vs Cardinals NFC Championship game... though I suppose I should just turn off Madden. (PressDemocrat.com)

Hey, a look at my favorite 49er... Takeo Spikes: Forever A Teacher. (49ers.com)

Golden Nuggets: Lock it up

Morning everyone, I'm back from my brief absence. I've been having a lot of those lately, but I'm sincerely trying to cut back on them. Anyway, back now and all is well. Or as close to well as possible. Yesterday we had a great Sunday of football as far as entertainment goes but two negatives as far as the 49ers are concerned. These of course are the Panthers winning their game against the Falcons (the 49ers hold Carolina's first round pick in the 2010 draft) and the Cardinals getting a big divisional win against the Seahawks. Sure it's bad for the 49ers either way who wins that game, but all we need right now is for Arizona to lose. I like the teams chances of fending off a Seahawks team, but not so sure when it comes to Arizona. Still, I see a huge victory coming to 49erland on Sunday, as I said previously the 49ers will beat the Packers, and they'll win big. Here's some links, folks.

The game against the Bears was the most watched Thursday night football game in its history. (NFL.com)

If the uncapped year happens it could affect the 49ers free agent situation in the future. I honestly never thought I'd be in a position where I was was worried about whether or not the team could keep Aubrayo Franklin. Huh. (SacBee.com)

This team with Alex Smith at quaterback is more of an experiment as opposed to a complete team who knows what they are. (SFGate.com)

Maiocco takes a look at the 49ers QB options for next season. I'm finding it hard to read through Maiocco's blog.. I hate the new layout, absolutely hate it. (PressDemocrat.com)

Barrows thinks Alex Smith is good enough. I think he's one of the few. (SacBee.com)

WR Josh Morgan will be replacing Isaac Bruce as the starter on Sunday, and it's likely not having to do with Bruce's ankle. (SFGate.com)

The NFL is taking note of the play of Aubrayo Franklin. (MercuryNews.com)

Golden Nuggets: The rare non-49ers game day Sunday

James is out of commission for today so I'm handling the Nuggets for the day.  Given that the 49ers have today off, the links are a bit light today.  Even with the 49ers being done for the week, it's been a pretty entertaining sports weekend.  We've got some big games today, but that's only part of it.  College basketball has begun in earnest with most teams getting into action this weekend (Go UNLV!).  College football is starting to wind down as we head into rivalry weekend next week.  And of course, last night saw the mega-matchup of Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto (in case anybody DVR'd it, I don't want to give it away - If you already saw it, make sure and check out our boxing blog's recap).

Caution hinders 49ers' offense (Barrows)

49ers Blog and Q&A: Game review: Alex Smith good enough (Barrows)

Gwen Knapp / 49ers an experiment behind Smith (SFGate.com)

Morgan replacing Bruce as starting receiver (SFGate.com)

49ers offense nearly invisible in victory (SFGate.com)

Golden Nuggets: Got the voice back

Aaaand my voice has returned. Good morning, folks. And now I feel like the 49ers are on a bye week, which is weird. I just hate going into Saturday/Sunday without anticipating a Niner game. Still, I suppose I have UFC 105 to look forward to today, even if it looks to be an incredibly boring card. As for the 49ers, I'm getting more and more convinced that the team can go into the game next Sunday against the Packers and get out with a win. Yes, the game Thursday was ugly. Yes, the offense just seemed to... well, suck. Still, I'm convinced (for like the first time this season) that the 49ers have a win coming up. I'm more confident that the team will beat the Packers than I was that the team could beat the St. Louis Rams. Oh yeah, I went there. 49ers win it, and win it big. Book it. Quote me. Call me leaving messages about how stupid I am. Do it all. And here's some links for your enjoyment.

WR Josh Morgan will be getting the start next Sunday in place of Bruce. Bruce was replaced in the starting lineup Thursday by Morgan due to an ankle injury but expects to play in Sunday. Morgan's starting is due solely to giving the 49ers a better chance to win. (NFL.com)

It seems NT Aubrayo Franklin is getting a lot of recognition from both players and coaches. I'll be the first to admit I disliked Franklin at the beginning of this season. I can be quotes as saying "Franklin has been just good enough to keep around and just bad enough for me to want him replaced." I said he'd need to pick it up this season, and well, he has. (49ers.com)

Here's The Wrap Up for Thursday's game against the Bears. (49ers.com)

Singletary hits rewind on the 49ers victory over Chicago. (MercuryNews.com)

He also explains why the 49ers were so cautious in the second half of the game. I didn't like it. (SacBee.com)

Golden Nuggets: Lost my voice

Yess! Niners win! Niners win! Hey folks, I'm here again, as promised--with no voice to speak of, as promised. The very loud guy wasn't at the game yesterday (the one sitting to the right of myself) so it ended up being my brother and I to do our best to lead most of the chants in our area. Be the end of the first half, my voice was going. Somebody told me on here we'd win if I couldn't speak anymore, and I literally can't. No seriously, call me, I won't answer--because I'll have no point to. As for my thoughts on the game, well... I don't even think Singletary's "It was beautiful for us" could be said here, you know? It was ugly for everyone fan, player and coach alike. But a win is a win is a win is a win, and knowing that I'll rest just a little bit easier when the 49ers play the Green Bay Packers. Until then, here's hoping for a good solid week and a half of lots of links--enjoy today's.

There's no secret, this game wasn't won by great defense so much as it was won by Jay Cutler throwing the game away. (SacBee.com)

For complete stats and a recap, head over the NFL Game Center. (NFL.com)

Vernon Davis won't look too stupid for his comments made about destroying the Bears defense considering the team won and all. (PressDemocrat.com)

Regardless of how much of the win is on Jay Cutler, the defense did step up and pick themselves off a win. (49ers.com)

Maiocco has a 49ers report card from the game yesterday. (PressDemocrat.com)

It feels great to snap that losing streak--seriously. I hate losing. (SacBee.com)

Got some more links for you after the jump. Keep in mind I make the jump just about every day for the Nuggets.
