2008 Mock Draft Database
Site 3rd Rnd Pick Pos. Ht. Wt. College Pick Assessment
The Football Expert - Michael Abromowitz - (Updated 4/5) Jordy Nelson WR 6-2 213 Kansas State Their Take - "Its hard to believe the 49ers wouldn't take a receiver until this pick, but with free agent signings, and the chance to rebuild its LB position earlier picks, its possible. Nelson's stock has been rising with solid 40 times. He has great size, not flashy, but knows how to catch the ball."
Consensus Draft Services - (Updated 3/27) Frank Okam DT 6-5 320 Texas New Era Scouting - "Okam came in to the 2007 season as one of the top college players in the country. His play thus far bas been inspiring, but he has not yet faced a worthy opponent across the ball from him. The stretch run of the '07 season will show if Okam is truly among the best defensive linemen in the Nation, or if he is feeding on lesser players."
Fantasy Football Jungle - (Updated 4/6) Red Bryant DT 6-5 324 Texas A&M Their Take - "Folks it's as simple as this: If you don't have a big, strong athletic NT in the center of your 3-4 defense, you're doomed. This has been a problem for the 49ers since they switched to the 3-4. Bryant had an up and down week at Mobile, but his strength and suprising agility for his size make him a good investment at this pick for a team that really needs a decent NT. He also did pretty good at the combine, showing really good speed (4.98 40) for his size."
Draft Season - (Updated 4/2) Dre Moore DT 6-4 311 Maryland New Era Scouting - "Moore has a ton of upside and will be attractive to NFL teams who run a 3-4 defense. His skill translates well to playing end in that system, and he is a rising prospect. He often played the nose or three-technique in four-man fronts; and both end spots in a three-man line. His combination of two-gap skills and one-gap quickness will make him an attractive player. His conditioning could be a concern, but in the NFL he wont be asked to log as many snaps as he did at Maryland."
Walterfootball.com - (Updated 4/2) Tony Hills OT 6-6 320 Texas Their Take - "The 49ers were the sexy sleeper pick this offseason. So, what happened? Frank Gore's injury played a factor. As did Alex Smith's ineptness. And don't forget the disappointing $100 million secondary. However, what hindered the team most has been its offensive line and receiving corps. The former surrendered 55 sacks. That's simply unacceptable. I don't care who the quarterback is; no signal caller can possibly thrive without any sort of pass protection."
The Football Expert - Greg Cox - (Updated 4/4) Roy Schuening G 6-4 318 Oregon St. Their Take -- "The offensive line that paved the way for Frank Gore’s 1,695 rushing yards in 2006 had their share of problems this year. Their four quarterbacks were sacked 55 times and Gore’s average rush dropped from 5.4 to 4.2 although some of that can be attributed to his health. Kwame Harris ended a disappointing tenure by leaving in free agency while the future of frequently injured Jonas Jennings isn’t clear. Their first pick Branden Albert is probably good enough to play right tackle. At Virginia he was moved inside due in large part to having D’Brickashaw Ferguson (now with the Jets) as one of two quality tackles."
Draft Tek - (Updated 4/5) Jason Jones DE 6-5 262 Eastern Michigan They have us reaching 18 spots early for this guy. At 262 pounds he seems like another DE/OLB tweener, of which we already have enough. Not sure I see this one happening. -- Fooch
New Era Scouting - (Updated 3/29) Roy Schuening G 6-4 317 Oregon St.
Pro Draft Guide - (Updated 2/27) Roy Schuening G 6-4 317 Oregon St. So maybe we either grab Albert at guard in the first or Schuening here? I wouldn't mind grabbing a guard and tackle in this draft to get some depth. -- Fooch
Walter Football - Matt McGuire - (Updated 3/29) Harry Douglas WR 5-11 176 Lousiville Their Take -- "Mike Martz wants receivers with speed who can separate and run fluid routes. Harry Douglas fits his offense perfectly, I'm a big fan of this pick."
Football Jabber - (Updated 3/26) Heath Benedict OT/G Trying to find more info on this guy. -- Fooch
Football Thoughts - (Updated 4/6) Duane Brown OT 6-5 290 Virginia Tech Their Take -- "An underrated athlete who will be insurance for the often injured Jonas Jennings."
