Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Riley Skinner threw a pair of touchdowns to help lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 28-17 win over the Virginia Cavaliers in ACC action at BB&T Field.

Skinner converted 14-of-20 passing for 130 yards for the Demon Deacons (6-3, 4-2 ACC) as they moved into a tie with Florida State for first place in the conference standings. Brandon Pendergrass added a career-high 110 yards and a score on 27 rushing attempts as well.

The Cavaliers (5-5, 3-3), losers of two in a row, were paced by Marc Verica who hit on 23-of-45 passing for 279 yards and a two touchdowns, but he was also sacked twice and picked off three times in the setback.

Wake Forest moved out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to a two- yard touchdown run by Ben Wooster and a 58-yard strike from Skinner to Devon Brown.

Virginia cut into the deficit with a 33-yard field goal by Robert Randolph, but the Demon Deacons responded with a pair of touchdowns.

Pendergrass capped a 15-play, 71-yard drive with a one-yard run, while safety Kevin Patterson came up with a 53-yard interception return for a touchdown to make the score 28-3 at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Verica tossed scoring strikes to both John Phillips and Kevin Ogletree of 21 and five yards, respectively, in the 11-point setback.

Wake Forest registered a mere 273 yards of offense, but made it stand up by limiting the visitors to only 28 yards on the ground and 2-of-11 on third down.
