Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Colt McCoy threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 78 yards and another score, as fourth-ranked Texas rolled to a 35-7 victory over Kansas.
McCoy was an efficient 24-of-34 through the air, with six of those completions going for 70 yards to Quan Cosby, who also caught a nine-yard scoring pass. Vondrell McGee and Chris Ogbonnaya each found the end zone via the ground game for Texas (10-1, 6-1 Big 12).
Todd Reesing completed 25-of-50 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown for Kansas (6-5, 3-4). Dezmon Briscoe caught nine passes for 115 yards, and Johnathan Wilson added eight catches for 93 yards in defeat.
A cold, blustery day put the clamps on an offensive showcase in the first half. Texas took its opening drive 71 yards on nine plays to take the quick edge. The first third-down play was aided by a pass interference penalty, and McCoy found Jordan Shipley for 16 yards moments later. Malcolm Williams hauled in a 14-yard completion, setting up McGee's 14-yard touchdown sprint.
Fourth-down failures, plenty of punts and a battle of elements highlighted almost the entire first half until Texas broke through with another score late in the second quarter. A seven-play, 67-yard march included a pass interference penalty followed by a 19-yard toss to Foswhitt Whittaker. McCoy located Whittaker again, this time for 17 yards, and the signal-caller used his legs and ran four yards for the touchdown and a 14-0 edge with 44 ticks left until the half.
The Longhorns took their opening drive of the second half 60 yards on 10 plays for another touchdown. McCoy ran for 10 yards and found Cosby for 11 yards, quickly moving the football to the KU 39-yard line. Ogbonnaya capped the march with a 10-yard burst for a 21-0 edge.
Kansas struck back and finally got on the scoreboard on its initial series of the second half. On 4th-and-11 late in the march, Reesing tossed a 26-yard strike to Briscoe. The signal-caller located an open Dexton Fields for a six- yard touchdown and a 21-7 game with 7:46 left in the third quarter.
The Longhorns put the game out of reach with a 73-yard march later in the period. McCoy got into a groove, completing four straight passes, the last one a nine-yard scoring strike to Cosby.
Texas forced an Angus Quigley fumble, and after a six-yard rush, McCoy threw a 36-yard touchdown to Brandon Collins with 10 ticks left in the stanza.
Texas accumulated 421 total yards to 305 for Kansas...The Jayhawks mustered just 47 yards rushing on the day...Kansas converted just 1-of-4 chances on fourth down...Texas sacked Reesing four times...Texas leads the overall series, 7-2.
