Shaun Hill questionable with back spasms: You've got to be KIDDING me!

To quote John McEnroe: YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS!!!

Apparently Shaun Hill is having back spasms after taking some vicious hits last week against Tampa Bay.  He missed one play after one such hit, before returning with a touchdown pass.  Currently Hill is listed as questionable for the 49ers season finale against the Cleveland Browns.  The good news though?

It may not be as bad as that. Hill hopes to be able to play Sunday in Cleveland and could do so even without taking any snaps in practice.

"I've done that before," he said. "That's part of life as a backup quarterback anyway. I'll get mental reps."

On Wednesday Hill was treated with ice and electrical stimulation and was on "more machines in there than I know the names of. We're doing all we can to settle it down."

Apparently the spasms developed late in the second quarter and had to have been aggravated by the big helmet-first hit from rookie Gaines Adams in the third quarter (for which a flag was thrown).

For now, Chris Weinke has been getting the first-team reps while Hill gets his back worked over.  If Hill is inactive this Sunday, Weinke will start and Drew Olson will be activated off the practice squad.  Personally, I'd expect Hill to make the start, but lord only knows how this will play out.  This season has seen one crazy thing after another, so this would be an appropriate way to finish the year.  Hopefully, this can be avoided.

Go, Niners!!!
Don't worry. Coach Nolan will get things right. Weinke's a pro. And Trent Dilfer says he'll be back next year.

Dear Bob
You've changed, dude. I used to look forward to making fun of your doom and gloom attitude, but what do I have to look forward to now? I never thought you'd sell out, Bob. I always figured you'd just look at all the negatives to selling out and decide not to... :)

Hill
This whole season has been one big spasm.

+++

There is no doubt in my mind that Hill will start.  He finished last week's game, so I see know reason why he won't play this week.  If he is feeling pain they can take care of that. Hill has something to prove. After six years of watching and waiting, he would have to be mad to pass up the chance.

Wow
Does our O-Line suck that much or is everyone else's D-Line just that good?

I wonder if we'd have less injuries if the guys drove the team bus off the side of a cliff.

Re. Wow
Our o-line isn't the best but it isn't the worst. I think the problem is the playcalling. Playcalling has been way too predictable all year. And I go back to what Frank Gore brought up--the players do not trust Hostler's playcalling.  As much as football is a physical game, a large part of it is mental. And these guys have looked lost all year.

Don't worry.
These guys haven't quit on Coach Nolan, and he hasn't quit on them. Larry Allen is going to be a Hall of Famer. Chris Weinke is a quick learner.

Did you say
Rollin' with Nolan?

I've moved
on to heavier stuff. Instead of rollin' with Nolan I spike with Mike.

Re. Don't worry.
I like the old Bob better, no matter how gloomy you are...now snap out of it Bob...

Nolan-world
Shaun Hill is just fine. If he has any trouble, it's not because of his back. It's because he's a pussy, just like Alex Smith. But don't tell anyone I said that. It needs to look like his teammates turned against him naturally.

We're starting Weinke because he gives us the best chance to win. These past two weeks, he's shown that he can lead this team to greatness, as long as he sticks to Jim Hostler's blueprint for success.

I hate myself.

Yeah, Coach Nolan is right.
It's all the other guys. Go Niners!

Is this my fault?
I feel badly here, that I may have changed you by nominating you for the Debbie Downer Award.  You gotta stay true to yourself, Bob!  Damn the man, don't let him (me) bring you down!

Game time?
I heard somewhere that the start time for the game was going to be changed to a later time. Has it been made official yet? Is it going to stay as regularly scheduled?

game time
I haven't seen or heard anything.  Did you see something online or just hear it around?  I'll keep an eye out for information on this.

From what I understand...
From what I understand, every game in the last few weeks of the regular season is subject to a time change (i.e. promoting to Sunday night or something for more "exposure").  Time changes, if I'm not mistaken, must be done before one week before the date of the game (if that makes sense).  I could be wrong though, as I am from time to time.

by sfgfan on Dec 27, 2007 2:44 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

In other words...
... I don't think the 49ers gametime is changing at all.  They're playing on the "East Coast," so a 10AM start sounds just about right.
