Week 17 - 49ers @ Cleveland Browns - Open Thread

I think this picture sufficiently sums up this game.  There's plenty of other things going on worth discussing, but this is Bryant Young's day.  He's the last link to the glory days and BY gave the 49ers everything he had over his 14 year career.  There will certainly be plenty of flowery tributes in the coming days, but for now, he's got some business to take care of on the field.  Whether it's Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn or Ken Dorsey, hopefully BY plants one or all of them on their collective asses.

Trickery.
Coach Nolan had them fooled on that fourth and one.

4th and inches
Great RB, line blocking well, facing one of the worst D-lines in the game, and with a QB with a 2-17 lifetime record. So what do the Niners "braintrust" call? Why, a pass of course. Brilliant!

What can they say
They like to live... dangerously...

In case I was somehow misquoting that, I was going for an Austin Powers playing Black Jack thing there.

More Nolan brilliance
Asked if he had anything special planned for Pro Bowl returner Josh Cribbs, Nolan answered, "Just cover our asses off." Which shouldn't surprise anyone, since covering his ass seems to be the only thing Nolan has done all season.

Oh, and just like with Cribbs, the coverage never seems to quite do the trick, does it?

Radio broadcast
The radio broadcast isn't too far ahead of the tv today. Better than the guys on tv.

49er Defense
one of the TV announcers said (basically) the 49er defense is known for bringing pressure on the QB. Obviously, this guy hasn't seen the 49ers this season.

Nolan Math
4th & inches, Weinke at QB = pass
1st & 10, down 10 points, 1 minute on the clock = run it up the middle

Moss dissing Rice
Hey woeful niner fans -- did you happen to hear Moss  diss your golden boy Rice last night?

A team can score and still lose, though
I don't know what sour grapes a Pats fan can possibly have with the 49ers, but I hope you like the taste of sour, the rate you're devouring them.

Duh
Silly Brady, jocks are for dudes!

Montana can't carry something imaginary any more than Brady can ride the unicorns that are all over the walls of his bedroom.

Rice did it in 12 games
it took Moss 16 to break it.

by Nosetackle Supreme on Dec 30, 2007 12:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

No
Did he say that Rice wouldn't have been man enough to lay down like a dog in Oakland like Moss did? Did Moss talk about running over the meter maid and how Rice wasn't man enough to do that? Or did Moss talk about how it took him sixteen games to break a record that Rice got in 14 games?

The only thing Moss will ever do better than Rice is diss. And piss and moan. Maybe that's why you like him, PatriotsFan. Maybe you think so little of yourself that you have trashtalk the truly great, but you don't get respect by badmouthing. You should know that yourself, since you can badmouth but no one respects you.

Moss will never have Rice's class
and neither will you.

As far as I can tell
All he said was that he was happier to shut up the reporters than he was to actually break the record. I don't see anything negative that he said about Rice at all.

Moss
is who we thought he was. And every team this season has let your bunch of cheaters running a basic college spread offense off the hook. If you want to crown his ass...

Another Troy Smith Sighting!
Another TD, and still no professional INTs! Sure, he was playing a soft as play-doh Steelers defense in a game that meant nothing to Pitt... but I'm still jazzed! Whoo!
