I think this is a winnable game if they can contain Purple Jesus.  Of course that is mighty hefty proposition.  At the very least I'm eager to see Patrick Willis come ripping through the backfield and take down AP from behind.  I think it happens at least once.  If they can do anything to contain Peterson, we'll see if Tavaris Jackson can continue he's recent run of impressive performances.

I'll be at the library until about 5, so I'm planning on watching the game immediately afterwards and getting a recap up after that.

GO NINERS!

GO NINERS!
I'm getting pumped. If not for anything else, Patrick Willis on Adrian Peterson is going to be a knockdown, dragout thrillride.

Me too
The only problem is going to be the announcers.  They are almost guaranteed to dick ride the O-ROY and D-ROY matchup.  I'm sure that by the end of the game I will be screaming at them to talk about something else.  Announcers have the unique ability to make me hate something I love very dearly.

Geez
If the Cowboys win at the end of this game I'm going to shit.

And not in the good way. In the way that gives you a stroke.

Not an illegal hit, from all appearances. . .Dilfer was just in a bad position.

I hope he's alright. . .I've always had a lot of respect for Dilfer, and you never like to see anything like this happen to anyone.

Time to take a walk with my girl
Officially this is the worst Niner team since I came to SF over thirty years ago.

by Bob In Pacifica on Dec 9, 2007 2:40 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's wrong
Do they really have to show him crying?  Let the man walk off the field with his dignity?  Fox says, "No thanks."

F this game, I'm watching the Steelers - Pats.  Good day all.

Dilfer
So what happened?  I don't get the game on TV here

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Dec 9, 2007 2:45 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

4th and 2
Tried to run it for the first, went head first, got hit solidly in the head, neck area.  It was a clean hit, but Dilfer didn't move for a while after getting hit.  Eventually he walked off the field with some help then was carted from the sideline to the locker room.

Hopefully my tone isn't missed
I do it every time some other QB loses his grip on the ball mid-throw as a way to make fun of the jerks who can on Alex Smith and his "tiny hands" even though it's been measured and publicized that his hands are average.

Well, I just got back from my walk.
Hill doesn't look too bad. Everybody's still fumbling the ball, though.

Has Nolan lost the team yet?

by Bob In Pacifica on Dec 9, 2007 3:54 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, Hill is completing passes.
Granted, the Vikings have been playing in prevent, waiting for a Niner to fumble.

by Bob In Pacifica on Dec 9, 2007 4:07 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wow
Shaun Hill came in and suddenly the 49ers were a good team who came back to win the game and will be fun to watch from now on. I can't believe it!

Hill
I'm impressed.  At least he got the ball to Vernon Davis, which my fantasy team appreciates.

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Dec 9, 2007 4:13 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't know how impressed to be
He did look like a guy who I'd rather have play than Trent Dilfer, but on the other hand the first thing he did in his interview was concede that the Vikings were playing off when he got in and that made it easy for him.

Guess we'll see next week.

Season Positive
One of the only team positives from this year is that we may have singlehandedly knocked Arizona out of the playoffs.  They are still in the hunt, but beating them twice and now losing to the Vikings has to hurt.

Huzzah for grasping for straws!

We are not who I thought we were.

by marcello on Dec 9, 2007 4:31 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nolan sucks
This game further revealed that fact.  He can't assess talent.  Why didn't he throw Hill out there just for the hell of it when the number 1 and 2 qbs were playing like crap and the team was still in contention?  What did he have to lose?

He is a poor judge of talent, poor play-caller, and bad at game management.  He is a good D-coordinator.  Thats about it.

What a miserable showing today.  The pleasant surprise of last year is nothing compared to the devastating disappointment of this year.  Give Nolan the axe.  He sucks.

by Call It The Throw on Dec 9, 2007 4:32 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

WTF
Seriously? Are you really arguing that Nolan is a poor judge of talent because he hasn't played Shaun Hill this year? Seriously? Based on ONE half of football? Did you notice the first thing Hill did when he was interviewed was concede that the Vikings made it easy on him to play by backing the defense off in the second half? Did you notice the consistency with which he threw poor balls on medium and deep routes?

Let's see what happens next week when he's not coming into a game 27 points behind against a soft defense.

by howtheyscored on Dec 9, 2007 5:36 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Premature.
Yeah.  It's a little premature to think Hill is a better option at this (or any) point.  Hill isn't a 49er because Nolan is hogging him to himself.  If I'm not mistaken, he's signing a 1-year tender EVERY off-season, which means the 31 other teams have a chance to assess his "talent" as well.  If you're saying Mike Nolan is a poor assessor of talent, and you honestly believe Shaun Hill has talent to lead an NFL team, you've got to concede that you feel the same way about the other 31 teams in this league.

by sfgfan on Dec 10, 2007 8:52 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Some positives taken from the game:

AP got manhandled by the 49ers front 7. Now we really do know who the RoTY really is.
If Andy Lee and Patrick Willis aren't represented in the Pro Bowl, shit is going down.
The Vikes beat the 49ers the only way that would have been acceptable, through defense and through the air.
Aside from one run, the front 7 held their own against the two-headed monster of AP and ChesTaylor.
Finally, what I've been preaching the whole time since Smith's injury, Shaun Hill finally gets in albeit it took an injury to Dilfer to get him in. He better farking start next week.

Merton Hanks, 'nuff said.

You folks are a hoot..
I always enjoy reading the in-game comments that day after.  I watch the games on TV but dont have access to a computer on Sunday or else I would get in here and mix it up. Stay funny...

And wjackalope, I really enjoy your pictures, too.  I especially like the one picture of the champaign bottle popping after the Arizona win, funny stuff...
