All-Time Worst Super Bowl Thread
So I'm up early on Super Bowl Sunday and just realized we've been sharing a lot of fond memories of the great Super Bowls recently, but not the bad.
And while it's always fun to remember the good times, it can be even more fun remembering what a crapfest something else was.
So with that in mind! What was the worst Super Bowl you ever saw?
I'm a pretty young guy, but in my short time there have been some memorable ones. Real, honest to goodness craptastic games. Buffalo taking it in the general backside area two years in a row to the Cowboys was painful, Dallas/Pitt '96 was a Putrid game (name that MVP! Ugh...), Drew Bledsoe's Super Bowl debut vs. The Pack (hate it when teams I hate win), and as much as I actually liked the game last years Seattle/Pitt turnover-o-rama was as poorly played a stinker of a game I've seen by two good teams (there should have been a third, honorary winner of that game, because both teams would have lost if it was based on their play). Then, of course, the Raiders ruin football by having Jerry Rice lose on the big stage in 2003 (although, watching an Al Davis team get fried was a bit of fun, especially by Gruden).
But for me, the one that takes the cake, and you may have guessed it, has to be Baltimore/New York 2003.
Ugh. I didn't even have anything against either team. I didn't like them. In fact, I can think of few teams in history that I was more indifferent to than the 2002 Ravens and the 2002 New York Giants (year changed to match the season instead of the game). Who possibly could have cared about this game? Trent Dilfer? Kerry Kollins? Good lord, what had the sport come to? Thanks a lot, parity (and I'm a fan of parity... it's like a party, without the i)! I'm just glad Trent Dilfer won, because it reinforced my long-held belief that Kerry Collins is the worst quarterback in the league who keeps getting chances to start (even back then it was pushing my patience). And believe me, in a game with Dilfer leading the other team, that game was only good for answering that question. I don't even have many actual tangible memories of the game, but that's a testament to how boring and how forgettable it was. I do remember being bored. I even resorted to doing homework while watching. That's how bad it was for me.
How about you? I know some of you are old enough to remember a lot more suck-offs (sorry for that, Fooch) than I do. Please, share.
Oh, and for the careful reader, there's no way that parity is like a party without the i. There's no i in party. Party is like parity without the i... but saying that would have been nonsense.

My picks
I guess the one I hated the most and really couldn't stand to watch was the Giants beating the Bills. Watching a game that the Niners should have been in and should have won was painful at age 11. I remember hoping so strongly that Norwood would make that field goal. While it's not the worst Super Bowl ever, or even one most people would think of that way, it was my least favorite.

worst SB's ever
I still can't understand how Dexter Jackson was the MVP of the Buc-Raiders game. Dwight Smith had 2 picks and returned them both for TDs. Gannon was just awful that day. I still think that the Barret Robbins situation really hurt them. It was just an awful game. Of course, Rice had a big game.
The first Cowboys-Bills game was probably the worst. The Bills never had a chance, especially after Norton broke Jim Kelly's leg.
The 85 Bears game wasn't that good either. It was a blowout from the get go. The Patriots never had a chance. It was over so quickly, it simply wasn't that entertaining. I suppose the Fridge TD gave a reason to keep watching, but still.
The Redskins over the Broncos was a horrible game, too (especially if you missed the 2nd quarter, like I did.). awful game.
I can't really speak to the games before SBXVIII (Raiders over Redskins) because that was my first one to watch.

The Giants Ravens SB was so bad
The Raider/Buc SB is a sore spot for me because we were betting on numbers in that game. I had 1/1 and was about to win when the F'ing Raiders gave up another touchdown. Not only did they get their asses kicked, I lost out on $500-
All of the Cowboy SB's sucked. Especially when they faced the Bills for a second time.
My favorite non Niner SB had to be '91 Giants/Bills. I'll never forget that one. Great game. Norwood would probably disagree with that statement.

Bills-Giants
My favorite non-49ers Super Bowl was probably when Elway beat the Packers. I didn't like him before and I was rooting for Atlanta the next season, but for that one game it was kinda cool and it was a solid game too.

best non49ers SB's
- Broncos over the Packer. The Packers were a really good team, defending champs and favored to win. It came down the wire. Great game.
- Rams over Titans. Not that good of a first half, but the end was memorable. The Kurt Warner, guy from nowhere becoming the MVP and winning the SB MVP was simply astounding.
- Patriots over Panthers. the game was ok until the 4th quarter when both teams just went off and made a lot of big plays. I wish I could remember it. Damn jello shots.
