2007 Schedule Release Day

The NFL will be announcing the full 2007 regular season schedule in the next 45 or so minutes. While we don't know the dates yet, based on opponents 2006 winning percentage, the 49ers would have the third easiest schedule, while our neighbors in Oakland have the toughest schedule. Part of that can certainly be explained by the division both teams are in.

We'll see how the schedules look and I'll post them here, but in the meantime we'll leave this as an open thread for schedule discussion.

[EDITOR'S UPDATE] - 10:30AM - The 49ers will be on Monday Night Football TWICE this year. The opening week doubleheader against Arizona and then November 12, Week 10 at Seattle. Additionally, we have back to back prime time games on Saturday December 15 and Sunday December 23. The respect is returning!

Easy end of schedule

I think we should definately be able to take 5 of those last 7 games. Considering 5 of those teams did worse than us last year and I doubt they're on the same magnitude of the up-and-up as us.

Yeah

The end of the schedule is definitly the easiest. The first 9 games are pretty tough though. Hopefully we will be able to go 5-4 in those 9 games and then move on to the softer part of the schedule.

Predictions

It's waaaaay too early for accurate predictions so I'll just throw out my thoughts with no real backup for my choices:

Beat Arizona
Win @ St. Louis
Tough loss at Pittsburgh
Beat Seattle
Lose to Baltimore
Beat the Giants
Tough loss to New Orleans
Win @ Atlanta
Lose @ Seattle
Complete the St. Louis sweep
Complete the Arizona sweep
Close loss at Carolina
Beat Minnesota
Ugly loss to Cincy
Beat the Bucs
Win at Cleveland

That leaves us at 10-6 which I think is a very real possibility and gets us a playoff spot. While the Bucs are coming off a poor season, if they landed Calvin Johnson and have a healthy Chris Simms, that Week 16 matchup is very lose-able. Basically I have us playing very well within the division and struggling against the AFC.

looks about right

for all the talk about it being an easy schedule, I don't think it's that easy. Obviously we play 6 games against the NFC west which has no really good teams (at least, didn't last year), so that brings the difficulty down, but playing NO, ATL, CAR, and CIN, and BAL is no walk in the park. Some very tough out of conference games, and like Fooch said, we might not fare so well against the much stronger AFC. At least we don't get the Bears again.

NFC West

Remember though that the NFC West is improving. Seattle beefed up their secondary and will potentially have a full season of Shaun Alexander. Arizona should get better as Leinart will only improve. St. Louis is still solid as well. I think the West is going to be better than people think.

A touch optimistic, but I still think reasonable/possible. Baltimore and Carolina could easily go the other way, but so could the Giants and Saints. I don't think there's a team on the schedule that we have no chance against.
