Vote for 49ers Patrick Willis as Rookie of the Week

Alright folks, time to show some Niners Nation voting power. Over at nfl.com you can vote for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week for Week 1. The nominees are the 49ers very own Patrick Willis, Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson and John Broussard (Jaguars 7th round pick at WR).

I just voted once on Mozilla and once on Internet Explorer and Willis currently leads Adrian Peterson 47% to 35% with Calvin Johnson coming in third with 9%. I'm not sure if you can vote over and over again, but I'll definitely give it a try on my end. Entering the season, I thought Patrick Willis would be a strong candidate for defensive rookie of the year and last night only strengthened that confidence!

[EDITOR'S UPDATE 8:25PM] - I just checked back at the voting and Willis has moved up a percentage point. Feel the power of Niners Nation!

When I voted Willis only had 48% of the votes. I guess the people running the polls over at NFL.com really weigh my opinion heavily.

To tell you the truth, it's pretty shocking, to me, that Willis is leading Peterson by this much. It always seems that the offense gets more attention than the defense and Peterson had one hell of a game. In fact, if I was to look at the two players totally objectively, without bias, I would have voted Peterson. I wonder how much Willis' performance being nationally televised on Monday Night Football has to do with his leading the poll. I wouldn't be suprised that if the game was on Sunday that he'd be like 3rd or 4th in voting.

It's shocking to me

That Calvin Johnson is not only not in the lead, but nowhere near the top two. His performance wasn't on par with the others, but this kind of vote is usually a popularity contest - and CJ would win one of those among NFL fans in a second right now.

All three

The love fest for all three (Willis, Peterson, CJ) has been pretty crazy recently. I'm going to assume it's the MNF effect combined with the popularity, in general, of the Niners over the Vikings and Lions.
