Week 2 Prediction Games

We'll get things going with the second week of the six-team prediction game.  Later this week I'll promote this diary to the front page, but for now we'll leave it as a diary.  Any questions about rules, post as a comment and HowTheyScored or I will answer it.

As always, ALL TIMES ARE PACIFIC

49ers @ St. Louis - Sunday 9/16 10:00am

Washington @ Philadelphia - Monday 9/17 5:30pm

San Diego @ New England - Sunday 9/16 5:15pm

Minnesota @ Detroit - Sunday 9/16 1:05pm

Indianapolis @ Tennessee - Sunday 9/16 10:00am

Houston @ Carolina - Sunday 9/16 10:00am

If you don't get your picks in time for the Sunday early kickoffs, you can always send in picks for later games.  You won't get a chance to pick the early games, but still a chance at some points anyways.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I feel like I must be going out on a limb somewhere here... I just can't figure out where...

It might be...
... the blowout from Indy.

I thought (and sort of still think) I went out on the limb in picking Minnesota over Detroit.  Everyone (thusfar) has chosen Detroit, so it's not making me very comfortable.  I just don't see how Minnesota can lose, maybe I'm just overly optimistic  for them (or over-rating them)

by sfgfan on Sep 13, 2007 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

How can Minnesota lose?
It's a distinct possibility that they lose because, well, they just aren't very good.  Atlanta, Cleveland, and Kansas City are all going to be battling for that first draft pick next year.  So take Minnesota's performance last week with a grain of salt.

I think Detriot's offense is the real deal but that just might be because I think pretty highly of the Raiders' D.  Also Minnesota specialized against stopping the run last year and was dreadful against the pass.  And as we all know, Detriot ain't going to try and grind out a game on the ground.

I think
it's probably a little bit of most of them... I didn't think we'd have as many close games this week because the matchups don't seem as even keel as last week to me, si I tried to stretch the difference in each game a little bit past where my gut was telling me. One or two of them, I couldn't. You can see it clearly in the niners and the indy game, but I tried to stay away from the one score affairs as much as I could convince myself.

my picks
49ers @ St. Louis - St Louis 24-20

Washington @ Philadelphia - Philly 31-17

San Diego @ New England - New England 24-14

Minnesota @ Detroit - Detroit 31-20

Indianapolis @ Tennessee - Indy 35-14

Houston @ Carolina - Carolina 21-10

I hate picking against the Niners but I hate short weeks after a Monday night game especially going on the road. I hope this pick is wrong. Philly is just a better team, period. I've mentioned here before that despite having lived in New England my whole life, I HATE THE PATS. But they always have this "us against the world" "nobody believed in us" attitude about them which is BS becuase the national media loves the Pats and their fans think they can do no wrong so in other words...EVERYONE believes in them. But this whole cheating scandal is the exact type of thing the Pats use to their advantage. They win this game. The Titans are improved but there is no way they stop the Colts and Carolina looks pretty good, they beat a young but improved Texans team.

GO NINERS!!

ok here we go
49ers @ St. Louis - St Louis 27-20

Washington @ Philadelphia - Philly 24-13

San Diego @ New England - New England 31-24

Minnesota @ Detroit - Detroit 27-20

Indianapolis @ Tennessee - Indianapolis 42-23

Houston @ Carolina - Carolina 20-14

I hate picking against the niners also but can't let  Jayp be the only one to pick the Rams.  I gotta be honest, the offense was garbage last week and as much as I want to see them rebound, I'm not sure it's gonna happen.

Is there supposed to be a format?
I really don't have a clue or feeling for any of the games besides the Niners, but what the heck:

49ers 31 St. Louis 16

Washington 10 Philadelphia 28

San Diego 24 New England 34

Minnesota 24 Detroit 17

Indianapolis 35 Tennessee 17

Houston 14 Carolina 17

I think that the Niners will open it up and make life miserable for the Rams. The Eagles will take care of the Skins easily. Despite the bad publicity, Bellichek still has the films on the Chargers. The Vikings will win, but it won't be so easy. Peyton will throw for four in between commercials. The Texans will make a game of it on the road.

I hope Hostler calls enough early plays to blow up the box. From Gore's character and strength of will I suspect that he'll do something spectacular tomorrow. Let's hope so.

Your format is perfect for me.
Doing things in Away-Home order makes data entry a lot easier. Keep up the good work!
