The 49ers look to bounce back from a tough loss last week. The national media would have you believe the 49ers were exposed last week as frauds. My rebuttal to that would be that the 49ers showed they have room to improve but are on the right track and the final score was no indicator of the 49ers performance.
With that in mind, the 49ers need to bounce back from the get-go today. Normally they say establish the run and the pass will follow. I'm convinced this team needs to pass to set up the run if the offensive line is going to continue to struggle. They don't need the bomb, but rather some 7 and 8 yard patterns to set up short runs for Gore.
After hearing that Marc Bulger had his ribs busted by the 49ers pressure, I'd like to hope we can get the same kind of pressure against Hasselbeck. The defense has done a solid job creating pressure so far this season, and in part that is probably thanks to an improved secondary. If the 49ers offense struggles again, the defense will have to carry the day. Sounds kind of like a poor man's version of the 2001 Super Bowl winning Ravens. Hopefully we can establish some offense though. No matter what, this is a huge game for the 49ers. Hopefully they'll take care of business!
GO NINERS!
P.S. - I'm heading over to the Coliseum for the A's season finale, so I've got the TiVo set and have threatened my friends with bodily harm if they tell me the score. I'll have a recap up after I get home and watch my recorded version of the game. And as I'm watching I'll check out everyone's comments along the way.

But it's clear that the offense hasn't been in sync all year. They've got to get the O line to work or it's going to be a long year.

This is the sorriest
The team is in trouble.
If the team made the natural progression on offense that it should have, we would probably be moving along towards a division title. But with the O line performing this badly there's no way we can win enough games to finish .500, much less win the division.
Time for some serious reevaluation.
Also, there's the question of how badly Smith is hurt. If he's gone for the season, we could be looking at the end of our hopes. And with that line look for Dilfer to be get x-rayed before the bye.
by Bob In Pacifica on Sep 30, 2007 2:41 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Too far.

Halftime thoughts...
Remember when Jennings blew off last week? It was because someone blocked the same guy he did, resulting in a sack (I think). Perhaps he needs to make it known (somehow) who he is going to block.
There has not been a single word on Alex Smith. I hope he can come back in. Dilfer's gotta be better than Smith in the sense of experience and knowing what he has to do. Alex provides the mobility to buy a little more time, something Trent can't do.

The offensive line
by rimrock101 on Sep 30, 2007 2:43 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
It's not Staley,
I'm beginning to think the coaching is at fault, because everyone seems to be unsure of their assignments. It's like everyone on the line got stupid.
That's why I'm wondering if the offensive coordinator for Oakland last year wandered into Niners' headquarters.
If that's the case Nolan's going to have to make some decisions real quick about what's happening with that line. Bring in help for Hostler, get rid of Hostler.

This year's MVP for the Niners

On the play Smith was knocked out
I really don't care what kind of rah rah bull that Nolan says to the reporters, I hope he's not saying that to his coaches and team.
This was the worst-prepared offense since last year's Raiders' team. And maybe worse.

Well that was seriously embarrassing
On the other hand, the Ravens are looking awfully beatable right now. Not crappy, still quite good, but very beatable.

Bill Cowher rumored to want 9er job
Mark my word: Bill Cowher is Niner coach next year.

Head coach
Nolan got screwed when Norv went south, a move that's not working for either of them, so I can't hang it all on him. He was kind of stuck with Hostler.
But he must have noticed that things weren't working out with the offense back in camp, and at that time he should have made some kind of move to help out Hostler and whoever the line coach is.
I guess it's possible that everyone is getting old on the O line all at once.

Color analyst
Rod Brooks, the sideline guy, is calling it a "system-wide failure."

I'm inclined to agree.

That sucked
Not only was the game terrible, but my experience at the park was equally garbage. At least 4 people in my section were escorted out by police, annoyning people yelling retarded shit everywhere, and this insanely drunk lady sitting behind us puked on my friend (seriously). I don't think I'm going to go back for a while. You get a much better view on tv anywyas.

Puking on the TV
Having someone puke on you is bad, but watching the game made you want to puke. The game was like the TV was puking at you.
The worst was Jimmy Johnson laughing at the Niners at halftime. Somewhere else (I think) someone reported that Kevin Gogan on the Seahawks postgame show was laughing at how badly the Niners performed. He said he'd seen better-coached high school teams.
They're fighting with each other on the post-game show.
