A little mock fun (a.k.a. Today's 49er) - 1/17/07

So first off, I'm shamelessly stealing this idea from Mile High Report.  There are so many mock drafts being produced that it'll be fun to track some of them, whom they have the 49ers drafting and who might be dropping.  It's become such a popular past time, that a Redskins fan site has listed partner websites and their mock drafts (http://www.hailredskins.com/MockDraft.htm).  Now that the deadline has passed for underclassmen to declare for the draft, all that's left is poking, prodding, the 40 and the Wonderlic.  There are 2 things to keep in mind: 1) It's still mid-January and there are college all star games, the Combine and private workouts before the draft. 2) Because of that I can guarantee that someone not listed in NFL Draft Countdown today or anytime this month will have a phenomenal 40 time and work his way into the first round (although having some dudes run indoors on turf with no pads on still leaves me a little confused).

So with all that in mind, today we'll start with a mock draft I have found rather interesting and worth checking back at every so often: NFL Draft Countdown.  Congratulations are in order today because Ted Ginn, Jr is now a 49er!  I'm actually waiting to get a scouting report from Around the Oval, but in the team, here's what NFL Draft Countdown has to say:

You have to give Mike Nolan and this franchise a ton of credit because in just a couple of years they've improved the Niners overall talent level by leaps and bounds...With that said there is still plenty of work to be done and one area that needs to be addressed is wide receiver, where they still lack a legit #1 target...Ted Ginn, Jr. is a big play waiting to happen and although he is still raw his rare, world class speed will more than likely land him in the Top 10-15 overall. This guy is a threat to score every time he touches the ball whether it be as a receiver, on trick plays or as a return man and he would really add an entirely new dimension to San Francisco's offense while giving young quarterback Alex Smith a fantastic weapon to utilize.
