For once, aside from Frank Gore, it looks like the 49ers won't be too short handed anywhere. Allen Rossum is expected to be back returning punts, but will not be returning kicks. With Clements having some hand issues, Singletary has said Dominique Zeigler will be the next in line to return punts. He has little to no experience returning punts but everybody says he has great hands, so let's hope that's enough.
The biggest question remaining then is whether to inactivate Gore and sign Thomas Clayton to the active roster. On the one hand they can wait until gametime to move Gore to the inactive list. On the other hand, they have to make a decision on Thomas Clayton by Saturday afternoon. Although I'm not a fan of wasting a body, they could sign Clayton and if Gore ends up being able to play, deactivate Marcus Hudson. The Dolphins passing attack has been surprisingly solid this season, but with Nate Clements and Dashon Goldson likely to play, they're bringing a mostly full deck in the secondary.
The one guy definitely out is Arnaz Battle. Battle has been suffering from a nagging foot injury that he re-aggravated this past week. Fortunately for the 49ers, all their other wide receivers are healthy and have been showing some impressive skills. Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson are set to start on the outside, with Jason Hill lining up in the slot. Although Morgan practiced all week and will likely be active on Sunday, the team is working him back in slowly. And of course, the fact that Bryant Johnson has been playing fairly well the last few weeks helps his cause.
