Foxsports.com is reporting that Takeo Spikes has agreed to a new two-year deal with the 49ers. I came across the initial info over at Barrows' blog.
I'm certainly quite pleased with this deal. Spikes was a late addition during training camp last season and was an absolute home run as a free agent signing. Although he took over the Ted position, he was a playmaker all over the field for the team and formed quite the dynamic duo with Patrick Willis.
We're less than 24 hours into free agency and the 49ers have taken care of some relatively inexpensive, but quite important business. Although people enjoy the big money signing, these smaller signings are what improve teams. We could've spent $100 million on Albert Haynesworth, but instead we get to see the Redskins have another "winning" offseason, followed by a stinker of a season. Thus far, free agency has gone quite well for the 49ers.
