100 in 100: Jason Pierre-Paul (18 of 100)

Jpp-271x300_mediumJason Pierre-Paul (a.k.a. JPP) is sort of a neat story. Here is a player that has beat the odds due to his natural athleticism. JPP did not begin playing football until midway through his Junior year in High School. After his Senior year, he then went to a JUCO and played there. He only played one year at the NCAA level but he exploded on to the scene this year and climbed his way to the top of the big boards. His talent is still fairly raw but he gives potential teams a mound of athleticism to work with.

At some point early on in the draft, I would expect someone to take a chance on Pierre-Paul. Some comparison's have been drawn to players like Jevon Kearse and Mario Williams. When you start getting compared to players like that, you know you are doing something right. Especially considering the amount of playing time he has had at the college level.

JPP stands at 6'6" and weighs 260 LBS...at that height and weight, he runs a quick 4.6 in the 40. Depending on his workouts leading up to the combine, he may even be able to top that time.

Below, I have provided stats, a video on JPP and his journey toward the NFL, and projections of where he could potentially end up...

I wanted to plug in a video that goes a little more behind the scenes with this player since he is an exception to the rule. It does show higlights mixed in but from time to time, I'd like to do something like this to break up the day after day highlight films. Some of the plays that are shown through the course of the video just barely showcase the potential here with JPP.

SUMMARY AND PROJECTIONS:

I believe that someone will take a flyer on JPP somewhere in the first round of the 2010 Draft. The Florida native does have some work to do at the next level, but has shown time and time again in different scenarios, that he adapts well and picks things up quickly. That in turn should make it easy for a team to draft him.

Possibilities -- Browns, Raiders, Jags, Dolphins, Seahawks, Titans, Falcons, Texans, Patriots
