Earlier today it was announced that the 49ers had signed kicker Shane Andrus to a one year extension. He was picked up

As we all know we had a succession of kickers at the end of 2009. Nedney pulled a hamstring, and we picked up Schmitt for the Detroit game. Schmitt injured his groin the next week and we picked up Andrus for the St. Louis game. I remember how late we signed him. Friday night the team left San Francisco without a kicker. On Saturday we had try outs and signed Andrus for the St Louis game. Andrus has never been a regular starter in the NFL, mostly working as a relief man, all in 2009. He played one game for the Colts, three for the Bucs, and then one for us.

In the St. Louis game he kicked four extra point attempts, all of which were good. His kick offs averaged 66.8 yards (pretty impressive I'd say.) He also was 100% on PATs with the Bucs and the Colts, as well as 100% on FGs on the year.

This really isn't a major roster shakeup, just a camp body to come in and be a backup to both Lee and Nedney, and maybe a replacement for Nedney should he retire soon.
