Jake Delhomme is being released by the Carolina Panthers; Cromartie traded to Jets

In the first of what will likely be many salary cap related moves, the Carolina Panthers are reportedly planning on releasing quarterback Jake Delhomme tomorrow or later today. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports news says that Delhomme will hit the market as early as tomorrow.

Delhomme is coming off his worst season ever, throwing for only 6.3 yards per attempt and 18 interceptions.

The coaches and management had earlier said that there would be open competition between Matt Moore and Jake Delhomme for the starting job, but that's obviously changed. The first signal that things were due to change was when the Panthers offered a 1st and 3rd round tender to Matt Moore. Delhomme signed a contract extension in 2009 that would've paid him almost $13 million this year.

In other news Cromartie has been traded to the Jets for a 3rd round pick that could turn into a 2nd round pick. More news to come later on that.
