NFL Draft 2010: Day 1, Thread 1

First off, if you're new to the site, feel free to register and join in the discussion. It's free and it's easy (that's what she said), and you won't get any junk mail. It's been a long four months since the 49ers season ended.

If you don't have cable, will be streaming it live; will also be streaming it live.

The 49ers were rather quiet in free agency and only really got going with the recent Ted Ginn Jr trade. And yet, it hasn't exactly been a "quiet" offseason. Such is the case when a team has two mid-first round picks with which to work, and one of the craziest looking drafts in years. There are certain players considered top of the line options that will be virtually guaranteed to go in the top 10 (Suh, Bradford, Okung). And yet, as people have mocked up the 2010 NFL Draft, some potentially quality talents have been all over the board. A guy like Jimmy Clausen was once mocked as high as #4 to the Redskins, and as low as 30 to the Vikings. While he's been floating around the 7-14 range, it's crazy what we've seen. I expect this to be an incredibly unpredictable draft. Throw in the move of rounds 2 and 3 to a separate day and we could see a whole ton of trades.

Now that we're finally at Draft Day, I wanted to run through a few policies and procedures so we can keep things running smoothly and efficiently. I'll be at Niners Nation for the entirety of the draft (minus brief food runs), so we will have plenty of posts available for discussion. So, when the team makes their various picks, there is no need to post a FanPost about the pick. The NFL has passed along some great info on many of the top prospects that I will be including in posts on each player.

More importantly (for some of you), this will be treated like a game thread, which means site decorum rules are turned off. While I don't want to encourage swearing, I understand how the live nature of this can be, particularly since many folks could be drinking heavily depending on how the picks go. While swearing is allowed, personal attacks obviously will not be allowed. If somebody likes a pick and you don't, explain your reasoning and move on.

This is the first year the draft has been moved into prime time on the East Coast, so at this point I honestly don't know how quickly this first thread will fill up. My initial plan is to roll with this thread until the 49ers pick at 13. When the 49ers pick I'll post a new thread featuring that pick. When the 49ers pick again at 17, we'll have another new thread. To see how things operated last year, check out our April 2009 Story Archive. If we need more threads, we'll have them for you.

Finally, the fine folks at SB Nation have several writers live at the NFL Draft (some of our NFL bloggers). They'll have a ton of updates with pick-by-pick analysis. So feel free to check out their pick-by-pick thread.

After the jump, we've got our author mock drafts, Big Board, and more...
