It's being reported through various sources that today the 49ers traded Isaac Bruce (who was under contract to the 49ers for one more season) to the Rams for nothing. This will allow him to retire as a Ram. We all kind of knew this was going to happen. The last game of the season he came back from half time dressed in civilian clothes to cheers from the home crowd in St. Louis.

Here's the official press release:

49ERS TRADE WIDE RECEIVER ISAAC BRUCE TO ST. LOUIS RAMS

Future Hall of Famer Set to Retire Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers today announced that they have traded future Hall of Fame wide receiver Isaac Bruce to the St. Louis Rams. Bruce is scheduled to retire in St. Louis during a news conference on Wednesday, June 9.

49ers quotes on Bruce to follow.

Following 14 years with the Rams organization, Bruce went on to appear in 26 games (22 starts) during a two-year stint in San Francisco, registering 82 receptions for 1,099 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2008, Bruce led the 49ers with 61 receptions and 835 yards receiving.

The 33rd overall selection in the 1994 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams ranks second in NFL history in receiving yards (15,208), fifth in receptions (1,024) and ninth in receiving touchdowns (91). Over his 16 NFL seasons, Bruce played in 223 games (201 starts) for the St. Louis Rams and the 49ers, earning four Pro Bowl appearances (1996, 1999, 2000, 2001) and three All-Pro selections (1995, 1996, 1999).

Here's wishing him the best of luck in whatever it is he chooses to do with his life after football.
