It's obviously way too early to make any conclusions, but Maiocco tweeted this:
In 49ers walk-through before 11-on-11, David Baas is getting work at center.
Baas got a crack at some center time earlier in the offseason during OTAs and minicamp. The team has Cody Wallace around as a back-up center, but he obviously has a lot to prove if he wants to stick around as Eric Heitmann's primary backup. Baas finds himself in his own battle for playing time thanks to the addition of Mike Iupati this past April. However, if Baas can show some versatility as a backup center, it would certainly bode well for his roster chances.
I don't see Baas getting cut, even if he lost out to Iupati in training camp. Nonetheless, with the way the NFL operates, nothing is guaranteed so having some positional flexibility can only help matters.
