The purpose of these college football threads and articles are to help those who don't know a ton about the sport to stay informed throughout the year up until draft time. There are several people on this site, and others from other SBNation sites, that love to talk about college football. If you consider youself not interested, or not understanding why it's being discussed on a Niners related website then there are plenty of other great articles and fanposts on the site to focus on relative to the 49ers.
There has already been some really intriguing games and matchups. College Football kicked off this past Thursday and will continue on in to Monday. So there is still plenty of action left this week with a majority of it happening this morning and continuing on in to the evening.
I am going to start the body of the article with a few important recaps and then get in to the rest of the remaining schedule discussing a few of the more important matchups.
If you didn't get a chance to see it, here is the College Football Top 25 Preview Article I posted on Wednesday before things hit full-swing. Feel free to post comments about what games mean the most to you and of course just general comments about any game that is on throughout the course of the day.

Recapping Thursday and Friday's games:
The most interesting game from Thursday was probably the upset of the #15 Ranked Pittsburgh Panthers by the hands of the Utah Utes 24-27. Dion Lewis was held in check to a career low 75 yards and the rest of the team struggled behind the rookie leadership of Tony Sunseri. The good news for the Panthers is that it can only go up from there.
All of the higher ranked teams dominated as they were supposed to but one other game that seemed at times like it was going to materialize in to a very good one was the USC at Hawaii Game. Greg Salas played like one of the top receivers in the Nation but the rest of the Warriors just fully couldn't string it together enough to keep up with the offensive fire-power of Matt Barkley, Ronald Johnson and the rest of the Trojans. None the less, it was a decent game to watch up until mid-way through the 4th Quarter. The Trojans defense will need to tighten up dramatically once they start playing some of the top-tier teams this year.

Previewing the rest of the weekend:
There aren't a bunch of great matchups today but the most notable and significant will more than likely be the matchup of #21 LSU vs. #18 North Carolina. The Tarheels will be without thirteen players and will have their work cut out against an always solid LSU Tiger Team. Aside from that, #6 Ranked TCU will be tested tonight going up against the #24 Ranked Oregon State Beavers led by Jacquizz Rodgers and company. Since there is no Monday Night Football this week, the first week of college football wraps up with quite possibly the game of the week. This is the highest that The Boise State Broncos have ever been ranked at #3. They will have their work cut out against a very stong and potentially dangerous #10 Ranked Virginia Tech Hoakies. Both teams have some phenomenal talent and it will be very interesting to say the least. The game should have plenty of fireworks and excitement and is a very good replacement for the lack of a MNF Game this week.
