Following the 49ers dominant victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we are seeing some response in terms of weekly awards for the team. Rookie outside linebacker Aldon Smith has been nominated for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week Award. His competition includes WR Doug Baldwin, QB Cam Newton, QB Andy Dalton and WR A.J. Green. Smith put together a two sack effort, including a great hustle sack I'll focus in on sometime tomorrow. He has 3.5 sacks (four according to some sources) and is showing some blazing athleticism as a pass rusher.
Frank Gore has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week (you have to vote for both a QB and RB to process your vote), which goes to the best running back of the week as voted on by the fans. Gore is facing off against BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Adrian Peterson. For the QB I went with Aaron Rodgers over Matt Cassel and Ben Roethlisberger.
While these are simply fan voted awards, it is always nice to get some recognition for the team. Gore and Smith had great games and deserve recognition. You can vote as frequently as you want, so head over and start voting for the 49ers.
