49ers Place Joshua Morgan On Injured Reserve

The 49ers made their Brett Swain signing official today and cleared out the roster space by placing Joshua Morgan on injured reserve. They also released center Chase Beeler from the practice squad.

I don't know if I am necessarily surprised the team placed Morgan on injured reserve, but it is still disappointing. Morgan really seemed to be taking a step forward as a wide receiver and was a huge part of this offense both as a pass catcher and as a blocker. He is a big, physical guy who really could do just about everything you asked of him in this offense.

It will be interesting to see how the offense handles this over the weekend. I posted the tight end breakdown earlier today and I stick with my belief that Delanie Walker could be a big difference-maker this week. While it is disappointing to lose a big, physical receiver like Morgan, the good news is the 49ers are closing in on getting back another physical receiver in Braylon Edwards. Injuries suck, but there is a silver lining for this season.

Best of luck to Joshua in his rehab back. He is actually a free agent after this season and it will be interesting to see what the market is like given this season-ending injury. He is a guy I really hope the 49ers re-sign.
