For those that are not aware, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The NFL and the NFL Players Association are showing support through a numerous events and actions. Games throughout October will feature pink cleats, gloves, chin straps and footballs with pink ribbon decals. Game officials will wear pink caps, wristbands. whistles and pins. Additionally there will be pink goal post padding in the end zones and cheerleaders will have BCA track jackets.
The league will also auction off game-worn pink merchandise and footballs autographed after the games. You can bid on the items at NFL.com Auction. You can head over to NFL.com/Pink to learn more about what's going on.
Each team will have its own events in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The 49ers will do so at their October 30th home game. They will honor 49 breast cancer survivors during a half time ceremony where 49ers alumni will present them with a commemorative Breast Cancer Awareness scarf. Prior to the ceremony, a public service announcement featuring 49ers players and coaches whose families have been touched by breast cancer will air on the videoboard with messaging about the importance of early detection. Additionally, 49ers front office staff and coaches will don commemorative pins, and materials related to breast cancer will be distributed to fans prior to kickoff.
