I entered this game with some level of concern about overconfidence and a possible upset at the hands of the Cleveland Browns. There is still a long half of football left, but if it is anything like this first half, the 49ers will get that sixth win. The 49ers have come out playing extremely physical football, forcing three fumbles (recovered one) and generally reminding the Browns that they will get hit hard if they touch the ball. They now lead 17-3 at the half.
On offense, the 49ers are looking to wear down the Browns defensive front seven. Frank Gore has 103 yards in the first half, leaving him seven short of passing Roger Craig for second all time on the franchise rushing list. Alex Smith has been quite effective, completing 10 of 13 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, along with two rushes for 12 yards. He was a bit off target at times early on, but he seemed to settle in quite nicely as the half wore on. If the 49ers can get this kind of Gore/Smith combination every game, they'll be in solid shape the rest of the way.
GO NINERS!
