49ers Odds & Ends: Super Bowl, Bucs

OK, so it's mostly just 49ers Odds, but adding & Ends makes it sound a little more like a random Jeopardy category.

Bodog released their latest Super Bowl Odds and our 49ers have improved to 40/1. They opened the season at 60/1, decreased to 65/1 after the Bengals game and improved to 40/1 this week. My guess is the win over the Eagles coupled with NFC West losses across the board were the cause of such a significant increase. Either factor on its own would boost the 49ers odds, but combined together and they are climbing into the picture.

Five teams that opened the season with better odds (Chiefs, Rams, Vikings, Bears, Colts) have fallen behind them. The Buffalo Bills have climbed into the same odds as the 49ers. The Bills and Titans have had the most significant improvements, with the 49ers and Raiders right behind them. As would be expected, the Colts have fallen the furthest from 20/1 to 300/1.

Head into Sunday's game with the Bucs, the 49ers are sitting between one- and three-point favorites. As the home team the 49ers get a three point boost, which would indicate odds-makers look at this game as an otherwise fairly even matchup. That seems like a fairly reasonable spread for the game. Both teams are 3-1 but their wins have not exactly been the most breathtaking performances to behold. For 49ers and Bucs fans, wins are wins. But for neutral odds-makers, the quality of the victory likely impacts the odds.
