Frank Gore Injury Update: Reportedly Walking Fine

The 49ers players had Monday off but several players checked into the 49ers Santa Clara facility to get a workout in or get bumps and bruises checked out. The most significant injury of sorts from Sunday was Frank Gore. He was off the field for much of the second half as there was some concern he might have aggravated his ankle injury. There wasn't much in the way of confirmation at the time, so it was hard to tell what was going on.

As of yesterday, it doesn't sound like there is really any significant issue for Gore. According to Matt Maiocco, Gore suffered nothing more than a bruised right knee and was walking fine at the 49ers facility. The 49ers coaches seemed to have a sense of confidence on Sunday as they were prepared to win the game with Kendall Hunter. Gore made a brief return to the game, but it was all about Hunter and Dixon to a lesser extent in the second half.

The 49ers have some tough contests remaining on the schedule, but if we see them take sizable leads in any games, I am curious to see whether the team decides to get Hunter and Dixon more reps even if Gore is healthy. Prior to yesterday he was on pace for a career high in rushes. He is behind that pace now, but still, he has been pounding the rock like we haven't seen in some time. A little rest might do him some good as the team prepares for the playoffs.

This has been discussed off and on in the comments, and was also brought up in this Fanpost. It will be interesting to see how the 49ers do utilize their personnel in various potential situations over the next seven games.
