The 49ers and Rams released their first practice participation reports for Week 17 and there are not too many surprises. Patrick Willis was limited again in practice after getting limited workouts in last Thursday and Friday. Maiocco reported that Willis is expected to be ready to play this week if the 49ers elect to play him. You don't want to aggravate the hamstring, but you also want to get some of the rust off before the playoffs, particularly with a possible extra week layoff.
The notable DNP yesterday was Ted Ginn Jr. who is still dealing with an ankle injury. If Joe Hastings gets the call up, the 49ers conceivably could roll out Michael Crabtree, Brett Swain and Hastings as their entire wide receiver contingent against the Rams. Vernon Davis will get split out as well on occasion, but I'm suspecting we will not see a ton of four receiver formations on Sunday. If Ginn and Kyle Williams are unable to go, it will be incredibly limited out wide.
On the Rams side of things, Sam Bradford and A.J. Feeley both sat out Wednesday practice. It seems likely we will see either Kellen Clemens or Tom Brandstater and the Rams own focus on Steven Jackson. I'm guessing the combined number of running back carries in this game will top just about any game this weekend.
