Golden Nuggets: Pondering The 49ers Quarterback Situation

Hello folks, today's Nuggets are coming to you either a couple hours early or an hour late, due to some significant upgrades to SB Nation's servers and things of that nature. I don't know a lot about what exactly they're doing, but it seems like it'll be the most significant upgrade of that type since they've, you know, existed. I'm fully expecting some issues for the first few hours/days, but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end. I think SB Nation has the best blogging platform on the 'net, and I know that we have the best commenting system out there. I'll take a few ad errors and bloatware every now and then. As for 49ers links, I assume you can guess what they'll generally be about. The combine is going on, and the 49ers are doing their homework, while the beat writers do their homework on the homework the 49ers are doing. You get me? Let's see what we've got on tap today.

Is it possible that the 49ers take a quarterback in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft? I think it's certainly possible, but I do believe the team will be taking a corner or outside linebacker first, unless Jim Harbaugh really happens to like one of the other guys. (CSNBayArea.com)

The 49ers and Paraag Marathe remain optimistic regarding the future Santa Clara stadium, and are encouraged by potential sponsors. (SacBee.com)

Should cornerback Nate Clements remain there at cornerback, as opposed to moving to safety? One analyst says yes, and I'm inclined to agree. Nate was the better corner last year, and still has value. Shawntae Spencer had a very disappointing year and it's time to see if a rookie can help make Nate better. (CSNBayArea.com)

Blaine Gabbert believes he is pro ready, or at the very least, he believes he can learn what he needs to learn in the allotted time before the draft and that teams should not be wary. I'm pretty wary. (SacBee.com)

Andy Dalton and Jake Locker took the podium at the scouting combine yesterday. I honestly can't help it, I still like Locker at this point. Not as much as I did last year, but I feel like he can succeed. I've been right so far about my rookie quarterbacks over the past few seasons. (PressDemocrat.com)

And then it was Greg McElroy and Christian Ponder speaking to the media. (PressDemocrat.com)

Matt Flynn of the Packers may or may not be available in a trade scenario. He honestly does not interest me even a little bit, I do not think he has the skills to be a starter in the league. (SacBee.com)

Inaction is part of the 49ers' plan in the upcoming free agency. I wouldn't be rushing to sign someone like Alex Smith, either. The only guy I think the 49ers should have pushed for is David Baas. Franklin would be nice, too, and they should have pushed, but I get the feeling he wanted to test regardless, thus me picking Baas. (MercuryNews.com)
