Last week I posted a variety of 2011 Super Bowl XLV Prop Bets and I thought I'd follow up with some predictions on a few of the more amusing prop bets. I've also re-posted all the prop bets after the jump. You can find additional wagers not listed after the jump over at Bodog. Even if the Super Bowl is a boring affair, the prop bets (as well as the commercials) can provide all sorts of fun and games. And you don't even have to go gambling online to enjoy some of these odds. Why not use them to make some side wagers with your friends?
I'm thinking I'd take the over on Christina Aguilera's National Anthem. The over/under is 1:54 and some research would seem to indicate it'll be close. In this fairly awful rendition of the Anthem, she was at about 1:53. In this slightly better version from the 2010 NBA Finals she was once again at 1:53. However, this is the Super Bowl, which is really the biggest stage sports has to offer for a one-time event. If I were a betting man, I'd bet she takes it up a notch and goes over that 1:54 mark. And no, researching this stuff does not mean I have a gambling problem!
You can also bet on the Super Bowl coin toss. I don't know who will win it, but I do know of the saying, "Tails never fails." I suppose there's a 50% chance it could, but I'm not one to push those odds. I'll take tails. I'll also take a field goal/safety as the first score a +125. The last three Super Bowls have started with a field goal and six of the last ten have started with a field goal. I suppose I could assume that means a touchdown is due, but I'll go with a field goal at this point.
You can also bet on what will be the result of the first offensive play of the game. The odds on favorite is currently a rush attempt not resulting in a first down, which is getting 6/5 odds. That's the safest bet, but how about rolling the dice on a longer shot. You can get 12/1 odds on the first play resulting in a penalty and thus no play. It doesn't have to be a particular penalty, which opens the door to anything from holding to a false start to a personal foul. I'll put my money on that for a chance to win big.
If you want to get some solid odds, you can bet whether the Super Bowl will be decided by exactly three points. If you think it will be decided by exactly three points you can get odds of +350, which means if you bet $100, you win $350. On the other hand, if you bet for any other margin of victory the odds are -500, which means you have to bet $500 to win $100. Given how evenly matched these two teams seem to be, I'd roll the dice on a field goal deciding a tied game.
There are plenty of more random bets as well. You can bet on who the Super Bowl XLV MVP will thank first in the post-game interview. The odds on favorite is teammates at +125. Then it's God (+150), doesn't thank anybody (+375), Family (+650), and Coach (+750). I'd think teammates or God would be the likely choice and I'll go with God for slightly better odds (and to offset the fact that I'm betting on this and am likely headed to hell).
