2011 NFL Mock Draft: Colin Kaepernick And His Upcoming 49ers Workout

Matt Barrows posted yesterday that the San Francisco 49ers will have a private workout on Friday with Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick (tip of the cap to Mr. Jesse from Anchorage, AK). The Wolfpack quarterback gets a lot of praise for his athleticism but heading into the draft season there were questions about his accuracy and his development from the Pistol offense. It remains to be seen how he'll transition to the NFL, but naturally the 49ers are doing their homework on all the quarterback options.

This is also pertinent in light of Barrows' 2011 NFL mock draft from two days ago. In the mock draft Barrows had the 49ers selecting Patrick Peterson with the seventh overall pick. This actually occurred without having two quarterbacks in the top six picks. Barrows top six includes:

1. Carolina - Marcell Dareus, DT
2. Denver - Da'Quan Bowers, DE
3. Buffalo - Nick Fairley, DT
4. Cincinnati - A.J. Green, WR
5. Arizona - Blaine Gabbert, QB
6. Cleveland - Julio Jones, WR

As interesting as this top six is (no Von Miller or Cam Newton), Barrows has a little fun later in the first round. He has the 49ers trade back into the first round (presumably from their second round pick) and grab Colin Kaepernick with the Pittsburgh Steelers pick. I know this is just a mock draft but it's still worth at least pondering the likelihood of a move like this. Is this something the 49ers could reasonably do, or even would reasonably do with a guy like Kaepernick? Or even any other QB in this round or another round?
