2011 NFL Pro Days: Blaine Gabbert Day Is Upon Us

The 2011 NFL Pro Days continue with some fairly sizable schools and particularly notable players. Today's school workouts include Appalachian State, Grambling State, Lehigh, Louisiana Tech, Michigan, Missouri, North Alabama, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia. There's a lot of good schools mixed in there but it's safe to say Missouri stands due entirely to the throwing plans of Blaine Gabbert. Since Gabbert chose not to throw at the NFL Combine, he'll be getting his work in today at Missouri with some of his guys on hand.

Gabbert has moved up draft boards since the close of the 2010 college football season and suddenly is finding himself projected as high as the number one overall pick. Of course it sounds like the Panthers could be equally if not more enamored with Auburn QB Cam Newton. It remains to be seen what are smoke screens and what are truths. Whatever the case, I think it's safe to say most of us want a strong showing from Gabbert in his workout later today.

Aside from the hype around Gabbert, there are some other talented players out there worth considering at some point in the draft. The Stanford Cardinal will be working players out down the road, including the likes of fullback Owen Marecic, defensive tackle Sione Fua, and WR Ryan Whalen. The state of Virginia is out in force as Virginia and Virginia Tech will both conduct workouts. Arguably the two best players in the state of Virginia will likely be working out in the form of RB Ryan Williams and CB Ras-I Dowling. West Virginia will work out CB Brandon Hogan and S Robert Sands.

All in all there is some quality talent on display today, but it's safe to say most eyes will be on Blaine Gabbert.
