We're back with another edition of our 2011 NFL Mock Draft Database featuring 49ers second round picks. As with our first round mock draft database, we missed a week due to the Vegas trip. But we're back with some updates. There are still not a lot of multi-round mocks, but there are enough to give us some thoughts on the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft.
Cornerback remains the top position in the second round mocks. I'd imagine these are coming from mocks that do not have the 49ers selecting Patrick Peterson or Prince Amukamara in the first round. As it currently stands, if the 49ers do not draft Peterson or Amukamara in the first round, are they almost obligated to grab a corner in the second round? Or is it strictly best player available and if it happens to be a cornerback, then so be it?
When you look over the available cornerbacks in the draft, where does the drop off reach a point of waiting further into the draft to grab a corner? Here are the top fifteen cornerbacks according to Scouts Inc (overall ranking in parenthesis):
1. Patrick Peterson
(3)
2. Prince Amukamara
(9)
3. Jimmy Smith
