It's here, folks ... the first tangible offseason news that actually means potential forward progress for the 49ers. We've gone quite some time without anything of that sort, what with free agency not existing and the only news being of the negative variety since the team made their coaching hires. I'm just relieved more than anything. It's 1:00 a.m. as I write this ... the draft is hours away, I'm going to get through the Nuggets quickly tonight and head to bed, so I can wake up and head to the draft party. It's going to be a great time, I'm just ... I'm excited, I can't really think about what's going to happen. Today, I'm going to be a fan and wish Fooch and Co. good luck on covering this event. Let's hope for some awesome players and some smart drafting from Trent Baake and Jim Harbaugh. Go Niners.
The 49ers paid $135 million to their last fifteen first round picks. I don't know if that's a lot or a little, but the number looks menacing. (SacBee.com)
It's the day of the draft and we are no closer to knowing the answer to the question: will the 49ers draft a quarterback or not? Well, technically the article says "drfaft" and I think we are all positive that the 49ers will draft a signal caller at some point in seven rounds, but the question is more in the spirit of drafting a quarterback in the first round. Is Gabbert an Alex Smith clone? I personally believe he is, with less potential ... there's so much about Gabbert I don't like. He's very boom-or-bust ... his propensity to disappear is worrying. I tweeted about it yesterday, check my Twitter if you'd like. (SacBee.com)
