2011 NFL Pro Days Schedule: Looking Back At Da'Quan Bowers Clemson Pro Day

We're nearing the end of the scheduled 2011 NFL Pro Days with Southern Methodist going today and Notre Dame and Jacksonville State going tomorrow. SMU's most significant player working out today is wide receiver Aldrick Robinson. Although he's a bit undersized at just under 5'9 and 184 pounds, he seems like he could be an interesting slot type of receiver. I don't think the 49ers will be investing a whole lot in wide receivers, but maybe they grab Robinson a bit later.

Since it's a slow day for Pro Days, I thought I'd take us back to Clemson's Pro Day this past Friday. There has been all sorts of jibber-jabber about Bowers and his right knee. He had some surgery on a torn meniscus but rumors began swirling that he possibly had degenerative arthritis in his knee and might need microfracture surgery. Since the conclusion of that workout I'm a bit amused at how different some of the reports are about the workout. One scout thought he looked out of shape. Mike Mayock isn't concerned about the workout and thinks Bowers will be fine based on the tape.

At this point I'm not sure what to think of Da'Quan Bowers as his draft stock potentially drops him down to the 49ers range of picks. If Peterson and Miller get snagged in the top six and Bowers is an option, the knee remains a major concern. I don't know if people are BS'ing about the knee. And if the 49ers grabbed him I'd have to think they've done sufficient due diligence to warrant the selection. In the meantime I guess we just have to wait and wonder. In one sense this reeks of a middle of the draft team trying to get Bowers dropping into the teens. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this was all BS.
