Rarely is it seen that a player plays on both sides of the ball upon graduating high school. Some players at the skill positions often are multi-dimensional in what they can do but rarely is it seen that a player can take his athleticism in to college to both sides of the ball.
There have been players like Deion Sanders who primarily played on the defensive side of the ball but also made cameo appearances in lining up as a wide receiver. Sanders is considered to be one of the most athletic players in the history of sports.
It's highly improbable that a player that can do this at the college level will do it in the NFL. NFL teams seem to want a guy to focus on one position.
At Stanford last year, Owen Marecic was one of these specially gifted players that was able to play both sides. And an even more rare feat, he did it at the fullback position and linebacker position. He was extremely gifted at both. However, Marecic is projecting to the NFL as a fullback prospect.
Follow after the jump to look at Marecic in a little more depth...
There's not much more you can elaborate on from the video. He is just a phenomenal football player. There is little flaw in his game as a linebacker. He is extremely instinctual and finds the ball carrier no matter who and how many people he has to go through. His skills one the offensive side of the ball are exactly what they should be as a fullback. He lights oncoming defenders up like the 4th of July, he has exceptional hands out of the backfield, and he can even run the ball effectively; similar to a Mike Alstott type of player.
Here are a look at Marecic's career stats on offense (stats on defense are not available):

Summary: Coaches love a guy that can contribute in as many ways as possible. They love it even more when they have guys like Marecic that can free up some roster space on gameday because of their versatility. There is little doubt that Owen Marecic is the best fullback in this draft. And there is much discussion as to whether or not he will be one of the best fullback prospects ever to step on the field. Marecic could wind up being one of the highest drafted fullbacks ever to enter the draft once it's said and done.
PREDICTION: 3rd - 4th Round.
