Once the annual NFL Draft ends, we get to learn all sorts of random, sometimes interesting facts about the newest members of the team. Now that the 2011 NFL Draft is complete, we've got our first pretty awesome tidbit about the 49ers newest quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick grew up in Turlock, California and The Turlock Journal had an interesting article about him last summer as he was heading into his senior year at Nevada. Apparently he first indicated an interest in playing for the 49ers back in the fourth grade. The writer found a letter Kaepernick wrote to himself as part of a time capsule project at Dutcher Elementary School:
I'm 5 ft 2 inches 91 pounds. Good athelet. I think in 7 years I will be between 6 ft -- to 6 ft 4 inches 140 pounds. I hope I go to a good college in football Then go to the pros and play on the niners or the packers even if they aren't good in seven years. My friend are Jason, Kyler, Leo, Spencer, Mark and Jacob
Sincerly, Colin
Many may recall that former Cal quarterback Aaron Rodgers had wanted to play for the 49ers as well. Obviously that didn't quite work out, and we don't know how Kaepernick will work out for the 49ers. However, it's still cool to draft a player who has been a fan of the team since he was a kid. And even more good news is that he was down to play for the 49ers or the Packers even if they were struggling. That's what I call a serious fan!
