Colin Kaepernick Has Leg Surgery, Time To Overreact

Oh my various Gods, what in the world are we going to do? Colin Kaepernick (AKA, OUR FUTURE) went under the knife in what I can only assume was a six or seven hour operation with multiple incisions and at least a 40% chance of death ... or worse, an inability to play in 2011! I can only imagine the kind of heartbreak that this user is feeling right now. Actually, I can't even imagine it ... I do not possess the ability to give that amount of damn for anybody, but you guys get what I mean.

On the real, it looks like Kaepernick had a very minor surgery on his leg, though it's uncertain as of now what the procedure exactly was. Apparently, it wasn't an invasive process and he should be ready to go for the 2011 season, not that there's any guarantee he'll see the field in regular season play. Some folks might think he's got a chance to be the starter (note the user linked above), but smart money is on him getting some time to sit, at least at the beginning of the season.

Matt Barrows of the Bee was the first to report it, and then the 49ers issued a statement on the matter:

The 49ers are aware that Colin Kaepernick underwent a procedure to address a pre-existing injury and were fully aware of the injury at the time of the draft. The 49ers have no concerns regarding his health and are confident that he will be ready for the 2011 NFL season.

So we know that he played four games in college, had great practices in the Senior Bowl and looked good at the Scouting Combine with the injury, so at this point, I'm not at all concerned. There's something to worry about when teams stay far, far away from a player due to injuries (like Da'Quan Bowers, who still scares the crap out of me, from a scouting standpoint), but it looks like at least a couple teams were in the Kaepernick sweepstakes, so no sweat from me.

Here's to OUR FUTURE making a full and speedy recovery. The poll below is what happens when Fooch is out of town. It's his fault.
