As I noted this morning in the Golden Nuggets, the Niners Nation NFL Tournament of Badness will begin early ... in an effort to determine the final entrants into the bracket. The final bracket will have 64 entrants, and we received more nominations for that. As such, there are twelve spots up for grabs and over the next three days, we'll vote on those twelve spots before the bracket officially begins.
You may be wondering what the title is referring to outside of a reference to a very excellent film, Little Nicky. Well, for this elimination round, I'm using Google Docs for the voting form, and as such, I cannot change the fact that you can vote multiple times. I urge each and every one of you to get all of that cheating out of your system right now (wonder if any Patriots fans browse this blog?) and cheat your heart out to get your entrant into the bracket. I mean, really cheat ... spend half as much time manraj7 spends posting cat pictures with your cheating, and your entry is sure to make it. So now, a brief explanation of today's matchups.
But first! Do remember that you are voting for which thing is the absolute worst of the two. At the end of this, we hope to have what is, in fact, the worst thing in the NFL. If you like pizza more than burgers, then you would vote for burgers in a "worst food ever" tournament. Does that make sense? Good ... now make the jump.
The Many Faces of Philip Rivers versus Jerry Richardson's Face
This one is fairly simple, no? Rivers has been known to have many pictures of his face display an almost caricature quality, and this one is by far the most famous. I mean ... just look at it. He's up against a rather famous photo as well, a photo of a man entirely devoid of joy and laughter, unless it involves having money (in the case of the former) and taking money from others (in the case of the latter). Just look at this guys mug. Which is worse?
Racial Profiling a Player's Skillset versus Being a "Poor man's" something
Now, keep in mind, this isn't simply "racism," which clearly is one of the worst things ever, in or out of the NFL. This is racial profiling when it comes to a player, something along the lines of "Peyton Hillis is the next John Riggins," or "Mike Vick is the next Warren Moon." Almost everyone is guilty of this at some point! It's up against the phrase "Player 'X' is a 'poor man's' ...". It's a pretty straight-forward thing ... is it not? It's a statement to imply that one player has a similar skillset to another player, but isn't really as good. Player X does X thing in the same way that Player Z does, just not as good.
Joe Buck versus Cris Collinsworth
Yuck.
Wonderlic Test versus New Referee Rule Messing Up No Huddle Offense
The Wonderlic Test results are always leaked and people always fuss over them. Should they? Is there ever any correlation to on the field performance? Who the heck cares?! And the new referee rule which requires them to get set and be in position behind the quarterback can be a big deterrent to a particularly quick no-huddle offense. Again, straightforward.
So, go ahead and vote below and go with which you think is the worst between the two. Vote multiple times if you want! Voting ends for this match at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (pacific).
NOTE: IF YOU ARE GOING TO VOTE FOR AN OPTION AND THE BOX IS ALREADY FILLED IN MY DEFAULT, CLICK THE OTHER BOX FIRST, AND THEN CLICK THE VOTE BOX FOR THE ONE THAT WAS INITIALLY FILLED. THE POLL RESULTS MAY OR MAY NOT ACTUALLY COUNT THEN WHEN YOU LEAVE IT HOW IT IS, YOU HAVE TO SWITCH IT FIRST!
